putting together a 72 charger, and can't figure out how to paint it, i'm leaning toward lime green, or orange,  got a bubble hood, going to either put r/t, or super bee stripes, 440,  paint the engine bay same color as car?? or black out the engine bay?? what color to paint the engine??  it aint really and original restoration, was originally a 318 car,  going with chrome valve covers, aircleaner, aluminum intake, headers, alum water pump chrome timing cover,

any body have pics to get some ideas??  and pics of engine bays?

Bob

F8, dual white pin stripes, blacked out bulge on the hood. :Twocents:

engine room same as body....i take it this will be  a street car, not a show or original restoration? no matter what color you choose, try and stick with one of the original stripe patterns...they were professionally designed to accent the body contours...

(i am looking for a 3rd gen car to re-do as a street machine....thinking about painting a very lite shade of beige, like many early b-bodies were, with black striping and black interior)

Finn

What color is F8?

Cause then peeps need to ask questions, there is what 2 or 3 heck maybe 4 different GREEN's?

Joshua

There are SOOOO many more colors of green (or any other color) than what Mopar made....... most factory colors are ugly anyway.:nana: :icon_smile_big:

Paint that sucker orange......but throw some gold pearl in the clear......it'll make it POP......

plum500

..Hemi Orange... the car, bay, bumpers, and block. Black side stripes and hood blackout. Add wheel opening moldings, hood pins. Hideaways - black. Would be very clean and mean.

Just my   :Twocents:  ;D

craigandlynda

good thought....don't forget the hood pins

True, on the shades of green, I was stating the Mopar colors of the era..... there is that sub-lime or what not too.

I'd be inclined to think hard about going with orange.  Reddish-orange musclecars are cool, and Mopars earn the right to wear that color as much as any other.

And you can actually not hear GL comments every four seconds when it's not a 2nd-gen car.
(With a 3rd gen, you might even make it as much as 7 or 8 seconds between GL comments!)

I'd probably choose something more high-impact than the true "Hemi orange."  Choose it right, and you can get away with doing this and a lot of people will still assume it's the factory color unless they really know Mopars & paint.

The (post-Cooter-overhauled) GLs in the 2005 theater movie were all shot with AMC's 1970 "Big Bad Orange."  I like it better than factory Hemi Orange, or even Chevy Hugger Orange.  AMC-BBO is close to those colors, but it's a notch brighter and not quite as close to red.

konigcharger

Standard or SE?

standard- GA8 - (Gunmetal Gray Metallic for the noobs) Black canopy vinyl top, bulge hood blacked out 72 style, trunk lid/ qtr extension stripe. also mopars get body color engine bays  :Twocents:

SE- triple black...  :coolgleamA:

but whatever you decide is cool
:2thumbs:

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

i'm thinking the color in konig's avatar, that bright green.  probably r/t or superbee decals on the hood in black.  what is that called??  i mean what do i tell the guy at the paint store?? isn't it sublime, or sassygrass green or something like that??
yeah a chevy guy was trying to tell me all kinds of stupid colors for the engine and engine bay, like black engine bay with a grabber green for the engine, that's some chittylet stuff ya know.  i always saw mopars with the engine bay the same color as the car "with a few exceptions like the bo duke guy's general lee"   and he keeps asking me why i want to paint the engine bay the same color as the car, i said it's a mopar thing, you just won't understand.....

1969chargerrtse

OMG another orange car. ::)  I own one and get a little sick of the color sometimes.  Mine is Hugger Orange, very bright orange in the sun whereas the Hemi orange has red in it.  Why the painters chose GM's Hugger orange over the Hemi orange is beyond me?  Being a GM guy also as a Mopar guy it's kinda neat.  Kinda.  I really don't enjoy telling people it's not the correct color orange for the car, but your average Joe/Jane doesn't know anyway.    :P   Then again I love the orange engine compartment,    :eek2:  I'm very confused.  Help me. :ahum:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

FLG

I agree with konig,

You cant beat the look of a tripple Black SE car with all that chrome, especially with the wheel opening molding  :drool5:
