New intake manifold???

Want to buy the Edelbrock rpm intake manifold for my 440 block, but I have heard that it wont fit my 69 charger.

Is this true? That it wont fit because of the height of the intake. I have the holley sd and it should not be much higher than that + I have a drop base for my air cleaner as well.

If this wont work, what should I get instead of the rpm intake? Looking for the same effect as the rpm..

i believe the performer RPM will wit with a drop base air cleaner - you can always use a 2" tall filter.    :2thumbs:

If you use the drop base air cleaner make sure you go with a K&N cover with the filter built on the top...the drop base sits to close to some carbs starving them of air.

The RPM manifold will clear with a 14x3 air cleaner assembly that has a 1.25in drop base.

If I had an SD and was looking for a little more bottom end power/throttle response i would install a 1in 4 hole spacer and use the above mentioned air cleaner assembly.  :Twocents:

I have an eddy rpm on my 505 stroker. I used the ford motorsport(reccomended by Chris 6t9) drop base bottom and the unsilenced factory style top and a k&n filter in the stock size.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

I would be looking at the Street Dom intake similar powerband with lower height

I am looking to add a 1/2" phenolic spacer to my setup to deal with some vapor lock issues.  I have the eddy rpm intake also on my 500" stroker.  Do you have 1/2 " extra clearance on yours that you could fit a spacer in there under the carb? Mine has a Holley 870 Street Avenger.

Does everyone here except me know what he has motor and drivetrain wise?  A lot of recommendations here.  I always thought that the motor might have something to do with choosing the right intake. :shruggy:

I'm with BSB67, motor stock ? rebuilt , got a cam selection ready for upgrades ? heads,
dominator is a single plane , that will cause a whole lot of other issues on a ? stock engine cam set up

Before you guys get too upset on this please note that it is a six year old post.  I just resurected it by asking the question about the spacer.  For that question I don't know or care about his build other that the fact that it was a 440 with an eddy rpm intake.  I just needed to know if it would fit with an additional 1/2 inch spacer under the carb.  So while you may have a good point it is irrelavent at this point since the original post was dead.  I would have started a new thread, but I asked and Troy said it is better to redirect an old thread sometimes rather than reinventing the wheel.  Maybe I shouldn't have resurected this one.  I thought it might cause some prolems.   :shruggy:

Thanks....missed that.  But in staying with my theme of being a jerk tonight, I have to ask, can't you just measure if you have clearance?  For the time it took to ask, you could have measured.

I did measure it and it is so close that I wanted to get a little reassurance from someone who had the same setup if I could.  I ordered the spacer anyway and will just be real careful when closing the hood for awhile.  I think I will be lucky if I have a 1/4" of room once it is in.

quick way to see how much space you have is to use a 2"-3" square piece of the green foam that florists use to hold flowers in place .it squashes down without damaging anything and stays at whatever height the space in-between is so that you can get an exact measurement  :Twocents:

have used it for years to gauge air cleaner to hood distance    :yesnod:

Right.  And the problem is that any little difference in production tolerances could be the difference between someone having a 1/4" clearance and the next guy having a 1/4" interference.  Your motor will sit higher by installing new motor mounts.

This I can tell you, it can work.

Great idea!  I was trying to think of something that would crush down like that and I came up blank. :2thumbs:

I just read in another thread that a guy used his camera phone to video the space as he shut the hood. Seems lik a really good idea to me.

A Styrofoam cup also works a measuring tool for hood clearance.  :icon_smile_big:

Make sure your driver side engine mount has been properly reinforced ;

Yeah, I've been down that road before with a broken mount and a big round hole cut into my radiator by the fan.

That lightly crumpled foil was the best of all of the suggestions.  I just tried it.  It took very little pressure to collapse it  and it didn't spring back very much if any at all. Unfortunately, my original measurements were spot on and I will only have 1/4 inch of clearance.   Now, any guesses as to how much upward twist/lift there will be when I romp on the motor assuming I don't rip the motor mount?  :shruggy: I'll do Ron's suggested fix for that.

I just pulled the SD off my 73 to put a RPM on it . I set the intakes side by side , The RPM is about 3/4" taller.

I have a RPM on the '70 with a holley and 3x14 drop base. Its close, but fits.
