Header Frustration

I've had some fuel delivery problems since I installed headers. 74 Charger 400. You could drive the car for awhile
then it would just die. Fuel filter would have no gas in it. I thought that I had taken care of the problem by installing
a electric fuel pump to go along with the regular pump. It worked for about a month. Now I can drive the car and there
are no problems until you say decide to stop for gas or something and you need to shut the car off for awhile. It will start
just fine, this is where it plays with you. You can go a couple of blocks then it will just quit. If you let it sit for a half hour
it will start again and be just fine. So anyone else ever have problems like this or is this car just the damn devil? Any ideas
as to what else I can do? At least now I know why the car was so cheap.
Thanks

Are any of the lines close to the header tubes...............maybe it's boiling the gas and vapor locking. :Twocents:

try getting a phenolic spacer under the carb, most likely your carb is getting too hot, boiling the gas..... :2thumbs:

maybe this is not the case, but this reminds me of the grain truck problem. the truck would act the same. problem was difficult to find. seems kids will be kids. they thought it would be fun to put some soybeans in the fuel tank. one buy one the beans would collect on the suction pickup, till the engine would quit.
once the engine died, the suction would stop. the beans would fall to the bottom of the tank. the engine would start and the process would start all over again.
might be doing the same with a rusty tank.  worth a look, anyhow.

if this problem started after installing the headers, its most likely there is some connection....headers are great, i luv 'em, but they put heat in a lot of places there was no real heat before....some part of your fuel line is apparently getting hot and vapor locking......follow lines and anywhere they are near the header, you may have to insulate them...also,you had an empty fuel filter...i assume it is a standard straight-thru type, one leg in and one leg out...it may be the problem spot...try getting a filter with a third "leg", which would go to a vapor can...this is a problem which sometimes stymies quarter mile cars....it got me a long time ago, when my sixpak car kept running out of gas three quarters of the way down the 1320.

Sounds like vapor lock. Insulate the fuel lines, use a carb base insulating gasket and block the heat crossover if running stock heads. Make sure the fuel tank is properly vented as well  :yesnod:
