I'll guess the rear wing was not installed, therefore no counter balance and over it went.

Looks like a clone in progress.70 fender, metal nose would not rip like that.

No driveline, so it didn't run through that fence under power. Maybe the caddy ran through the fence and hit the clone. :shruggy:

Tornado maybe? :shruggy:

Ya got it right Cody...  The Daytona clone was the victim of a May 1993 Category F3 tornado that hit Wylie, Texas...

At the time I was living over 300 miles away back in San Antonio, Texas having moved down there to stay employed.  At the time I was actually "over-employed"...  working about 70 hours per week.  I had just arrived home from work after a loooooooong day, and turned on CNN Headline News just in time to see coverage of the tornado that hit Wylie.  The news video was taken from a helicopter fly-over, and I suddenly recognized the industrial park where the body shop was restoring my Hemi `Cuda and several friend's cars.

The roof of the body shop was gone, and I could see a lime green blob in the corner where I knew my `Cuda was normally keep.  I could not make out what condition the `Cuda was in... even whether it was right side up!  I immediately tried calling the body shop owner and a friend that lived nearby to the shop, but as is usually the case in disasters the phone circuits were overloaded.  Many hours went by, but I finally got to talk to a friend who had been to the bodyshop after the tornado struck.

He told me the Hemi `Cuda had only minimal damage, but the fresh paint job was toast... covered with a array of body shop left over paint.  My friend was not so fortunate, with damage to several of his Mopars... including the destroyed Daytona clone.  The Daytona clone was a real 1969 Charger R/T with 1970 fenders and a very early (thin) Janak fiberglass nose.  The test fitting of the parts had just started, so it happened before a lot of money had been spent on bodywork and paint.  Although a few parts were salvaged from the clone, the unibody was so damaged that it was not considered saveable.

Below are few pictures of my `Cuda and bodyshop damage...

The `Cuda was repaired and repainted in about 18 months because the bodyshop had its hands full with the unplanned move and repairing about 8 cars damaged in the tornado.  I picked it up shortly before moving back up to Fort Worth, and it went into "deep" storage.  Unfortunately it is still unfinished...  :P  It will be a neat car when finished... original Hemi w/4 Speed & 4:10 Dana.

My friend has another Daytona clone in work, with most of the body work done IIRC.  Like me, he tends to shift priorities... currently working on an E-Body convertible.

I ran out of room a long time ago...  :P  Finally doing something about it... two cars sold, with more selling to come.

Thanks, I'll send two 1968 Polaras & a 1990 D150 Pick-Up...  :icon_smile_wink:

BTW, the biggest problem with the `Cuda was the uncatalyzed paint & other body shop chemicals that covered the car.  The painter said these materials "burned" down to the bare metal, requiring a complete removal before re-priming and painting.

Unfortunately most are project cars... and I am not getting any younger.  I have seriously thought about multi-car trades to get turn-key cars, but they rarely work out.  Also, most people want cars like my triple black Charger which is NOT going anywhere!

There are a LOT of neat cars like a Hemi Daytona that I will probably never have, but I am grateful for those that I do own.  BTW, I paid $500 for the Hemi `Cuda in the mid 1980s!  :2thumbs:

Well when you decide you don't ever get around to doing that Daytona let me know. You know I'd gladly take that one off your hands. Although there is no guarantee that I'd ever finish it before I'm 90 though.

I posted some pictures about 2 1/2 years ago when I bought the car... Below are a few pictures...

The car is a project car by any definition... saved from being used as a dirt track car by a previous owner.  It is a 440 with Automatic, Y2 Sunfire Yellow with Black interior.

Hi Brent, I did not know about y'alls 69 RT/SE...  there was a time I did not like Y2 because I thought it was too pale, but  it has grown on me... especially with black to accent it (top, tail stripe, etc).

I am not sure what the future holds for my 69 R/T... might become part of my long overdue down-sizing of the collection.  :shruggy:

Allen, I've drooled over your collection of projects since the first day I joined the site and started mulling through some of your older posts - there are some cars there that I would definitely be interested in purchasing, esp. after the Hemi Charger is complete and I look for the next project (9-12 months from now when I can see the light) - almost pulled the trigger on a project '69 1/2 A12 superbee two weeks ago (seller in a cash crunch but not that great of a deal), but I decided I want to see the Hemi done first so I can have something to enjoy while going through the headache of a full-blown resto again...

What would you be willing to part with out of curiosity? (PM preferred)
