Barn find or waste of time????????

So the story begins last night with my talking to a good pal on the phone and he mentions to me that one of his co-workers has a buddy with a farm.  At the back of this farm there are a bunch of derelict cars and said farmer has decided to have them all crushed for the sheet metal.  The co-worker asked to go through them first and see if any were worth keeping.  Turns out to are, one is a very cool but un-named Chevy (I know it has to be cool because it's the only one worth saving really) and the other one is a fastback Barracuda with a 383 in it.  Since my buddy is into Mopars, the co-worker asked him if he wants the Plymouth, free, just for getting it off the property.  My friend of course said yes.
Fast forward to today and my buddy stops by after work to tell me that while he was on the phone with me last night, the co-worker went out to the farm to look at the cars again and apparently, the Barracuda is partially stripped.  It turns out that, "all the trim on the top of the fenders has been pulled off and it looks like there must have been some kind of ornament thing on the trunklid and it's missing too".
Now the only question is how much of the rest of the "Barracuda" is still there.  :D

No campfire stories - where are the photos man!   :popcrn:

Ghoste

I'm as anxious to see them as you are.  My buddy is disappointed because he was hoping to get a late 60's 383 Barracuda for free.  I'm hoping to score a good parts car.

69_500

What you mean there isn't any Daytona's or 500's just sitting around waiting to be picked up? Because if there is you are surely going to allow me to go get one first right?  :yesnod:

69bronzeT5

I'd still take a free Barracuda...even if its partially stripped.

Some people are a bit slow it seems ... :D

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Ghoste

Not slow, just not familiar with the differences in trim between 67 to 69 Barracudas and 66 to 67 Chargers:icon_smile_wink:

G-man

give me the address... u can ask questions whether its worth it or not in a week from now. :eyes:

Ghoste

I don't even know if they are real yet let alone where they are.

bull

It might be a Barracuda and it might be a Subaru Brat. :shruggy: What I've found regarding these barn find stories is that people generally don't know a Citroen from a Citation. So yea, it probably is a waste of time but you're pretty much obligated to waste it just in case it's something worth having.

craigandlynda

a cireon from a citation? you mean there's a difference?

WingCharger

A barn find is a barn find. There is basically a 99% chance you will get it cheaper than it would go in the same condition in old car trader! No matter what it is, go get it! I would take any muscle car right now, whether it was a cuda or a charger.

ANd it's FREE,if it turn out to something other than what he thought crush it and make a few $$$$$ for some new part's.....

"IF" the Barracuda is real, and "IF" the motor in it is a 383, and "IF" it by some chance is the original motor to the car, and "IF" my memory still works, it should be a Formula S car with a 383 & worth grabbing whether it's rusted or not, or whether it's missing trim or not.

If it's just a car with a 383 added, the exhaust manifolds, the A-Body big block K-frame, the rear, the trans, the driveshaft, & a few other things are tough to come by & sought after. If it's real, I'd hate to see it scrapped or parted, but if it's beyond repair, or not an original big block car, there could be some rare parts on it.

Sounds to me like an early Barracuda (64-66).
I've had a few over the years, and as far as I know, none of the 67-69 versions had chrome trim on top of the fenders, or a medallion on the trunklid. :Twocents:

First gen Baccarudas had minimal fender trim and no trunk lid medallion, so I'm votiing for first gen Charger.

Death1970Proof

You could possibly have a formula s 383 barracuda on the line for free and you havent got it ???? :o Big block a bodies were only made 67-69 and let me tell ya those are RARE!!! I can take it off his hands so no one will have to wonder....
"Remember when I said this car was death proof? Well that wasnt' a lie-this car is 100%death proof- only to get the benefit of it honey you really need to be sitting in my seat"...

ANY UPDATES? WHERES THE PICS? LEON. :scratchchin: :-\ :shruggy:

Ghoste

Okay, I'll repost with less subtlety.  1st of all, it isn't a Barracuda, it's a Charger folks.  2nd of all, I am 3 people removed from the carand have yet to see it myself, if I knew where it was the pics would already be up.  If I start pressing for a personal sighting, you can pretty much guarantee that people will get suspicious and the price will go up.
Pics for redemption?  Man I am way past that.  If I wanted to make a fake post to string you along, I have thousands of pics gathered over the last few decades that I could easily go through and substitute one to support a bs story.  The buddy and the co worker in this story have enough credibility with me to give the story sufficient reason to follow up.
Does that mean the story will turn out as hoped?  Absolutley not, but it could still happen and even if it goes bust you will get a pic of whatever it turns out to actually be (even if I have to go through my photo albums and pic a random car to throw you off  :nana:)

pettyfan43

I think some of the confusion is that if you don't actually have a first gen Charger, you aren't as familiar with the subtleties of those cars like the fender trim and the trunk emblem.  These cars aren't just fastback Coronets. They have a personality ALL their own.

They are also WAY TOO COOL!!!!

hope you get a chance to check out the car.

69_500

But he does already have a 1st gen charger

Ghoste

Agreed, it's my fault for not being clearer, as for already having one, that's kind of why I hope it's a good parts car.  In reality, I would like for it to be a worthwhile resto for somebody and keep another one on the road.  It will have to be someone else because the only extra space I have for another car is reserved for a model that is a couple of years newer.
In any case, unless I find out today, it will be at least a week before I can follow up since I head out tomorrow for a week on a different mission (although I will probably run across a couple of other cool old cars during that  :icon_smile_wink: ).
I will keep you posted on the final outcome though.

MAN those cars are like a drug, once you own ONE, another sounds pretty cool. PLUS with the scarcity of parts, it NEVER hurts to have a parts car. I had a guy GIVE me one and he figured he had taken everything worth taking. SO FAR it has saved me a couple hundred bucks in knick knacks for MINE!

I have thought I would like to have another one (Maybe a 67 this time) once mine is finished.

69_500

Where you going to on your mission? To Carlisle?

Ghoste

Unfortunately no, I won't be able to go to Carlisle this year.
