has anybody tried the passon overdrive kit for 18 spline trans? if so how was the rpm drop between gears, was it alot?
jammie says its stronger than the stock trans, and the tremec 5 speed. i want a od trans but dont know whitch one would be best.
i like how the od kit drops right in,and you dont have to change anything else, drive shaft, clutch, bellhousing ect....
i want to use it in my 70 charger, with 800 plus hp. and700 plus torque. it has a 4.10 rear gear.just wondering with alot of torque
if rpm drop between gears would be ok? :popcrn:

RPM drop with your engine combo will be acceptable for street driving...       at the strip I think you'll be leaving some time on the table because of the bogging...

I installed the Passon kit for Car Craft Magazine last year and it is a good kit...       I am running a TKO 600 in my Charger however because of the added gear giving less of a rpm drop. I will be making right around 500tq with my new engine combo and am thinking of swapping to a T-56 for a double OD gear set up.

But to answer your question...     yes i have done it and yes i have driven it...    not good for drag racing but adequate for street duty.  :2thumbs:

which one do think is strongest? i would rather have the tko 600,but i have heard they are not as strong.
i make 680 rwhp with a 4.10 gear. with 275/60/15 street tires, that spin, would that take some of the torque off
the trans.? how about at the strip with slicks?

thanks again :coolgleamA:

Well = street tires do spin...    that does not stress the transmission as much as say a slick with no spin at all...       at the track I think you will be alright...    usually the most fragile gear in an OD trans is the OD gear itself due to its size -  at the drag strip you will only be in gears 1-4...       It is a crap shoot to be sure - I have not put that much power to a TKO600 at a track with slicks...     no way to know for sure...      but then again I havent put that much power to the Passon OD with slicks either     :popcrn:

The name escapes me at the moment...    if you're bucks up go with the Transzilla from Rockland Standard Gear...    takes 1200hp and 1000tq...      my friend's father runs one in his 1400hp Viper with no issues.
