JK,

Please look at the pic and tell me if you think the planetary wear as shown around the inner shaft is due to too much endplay or ??? I found the planetary like that when I tore the trans apart. The trans was not ran as it was overhauled due to assembly grease being present still. the secondary clutch drum had some wear also showing that the planetary and it were in contact, but when it caused the extreme wear shown is beyond my knowledge. Also, look at the home-done holes drilled into the sun shell. the engineer behind the holes did not even remove excess metal by deburring the holes! Would such a home made job throw off the balance of the sunshell? And if so, would that have possibly caused the wear on the planetary due to wobble?

let me know and thanks.

The wear around the planet carrier hub is caused by a rear clutch piston that has come too far out of its bore. This is not uncommon and is caused by a weak Belleville spring in the rear cliutch or too much line pressure (or both) Check the piston for evidence of wear.

The holes do look like a homespun attempt to improve lube flow, I doubt if the holes would cause a noticeable imbalance but definitely deburr them..
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
