Thats great your getting it painted and all, but no painter ever paints Silver individually like that. Once you put it together it won't match 100%. Being painted at different times like so is the reason, Silver is a PITA to *butt match* like what is being done. Take a photo of it after its done, there will be a difference.
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

I'll agree with DADS69. I only do that with solid colors. With a Metallic color your playing Russian Roulette, Pull the trigger & hope you get lucky. I've seen it go either way, sometimes it may match, sometimes not, Depends on many factyors, Humidity, Tempeture, Gun Distance, Amount of thinning, thicker or thinner, Color of sealer underneath, #'s of coats, most of all getting the metallics to lay down the same, When you have the car together & walk the whole side then you know it's going to match, I know there are many in here that will disagree by saying they done it in peices & it's match so this is just my opinion. Opinions vary.  Besides that, looks good so far  :2thumbs: LEON.

maybe someone will remember me arguing about this with another member a while ago. I think this is problem with most metallic paint jobs. This was exactly my point but some people just dont listen. Nice color anyways.

Thanks for the extra info.hemi-hampton. I wanted to explain more details, but I logged off before I got do into detail and I don't want someone screaming at me saying I'm wrong... I don't mean to rain on your parade, I truly hope it comes out nice/evenly. Silver R/T, I believe thats twice now we've agreed on something!  :D

:yesnod: :iagree:     been painting cars for 20 years  ... would always try to get the  new panels bolted on the car before  painting    metallic  colors ... takes a bit more time in a collision shop when time is money & most of the new panels are  wet on wet  ..none sand primer & paint straight on top  :yesnod:

car looks awesome dude  can't wait to see it finished .. :popcrn:

If it were me Id base the whole car , then pull the doors , fenders  hood and deck lid back off and clear it in sections to keep it nice and clean and to avoid paint lines in the jambs etc.

Went by the shop yesterday.  WOW! is all I can say.  These pictures do not do it justice because of the quality of my camera and lighting......

These pictures were taken just after they finished the 3rd coat of silver but before the clearcoats were done.

I asked about comments made earlier in this post about the painting of the doors, fenders, seperately and possible concerns.  The shop owner agreed that sometimes in certain colors you could have that result but their history of show cars, etc. have made them believe this to be the best method and have had nothing but fantastic results.  I had seen a number of their cars in local car shows and every client I ever talked to raved about the quality.  Who knows, we will see.

I should have more pictures to post next week as they finish clear coating and buffing.

Have I told you that I have not slept yet??????

I hope may car looks half that good tomorrow when I squirt it.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
