Need wheels RE-chromed on West Coast , any suggestions ?

Throwing this out there, hopefully someone has had a good experience, or a good reference to give...

Have a set of 15x8"  Little Red Express truck type rims i want re-chromed .  They are steel wheels originally chromed from the factory.  Chrome is peeling, shows some rust, and they need refinished.

Am having a hard time finding a place that strips and rechromes wheels.
From what I've found ----- Need Motorcycle rims chromed ? - not a problem,  Want your aluminum rims chromed ?- not a problem.
Want your original chrome covered automotive steel rim re-chromed ?  Problem !

Any suggestions ?     These wheels are Not reproduced so I'm SOL in that respect.

I don't need them to last 100 years, and i don't want to pay $500  per rim.  Its for a driver type vehicle. I understand its not cheap.
I suppose non west coast is OK, just don't want to get killed by the shipping there and back.
Specifically I'm near Seattle if that helps.  Thanks .

Hes inexpensive and a great guy.

Ive used him with mixed results however.

I had him do bumpers and they where great.

He fixed a tear and straightened them, for less than half what others wanted.

I had a few smaller pieces done that where driver good but not stunning.

Which really i suspect was more of a problem of the starting condition of the original piece.

Anyway if your on a budget I would call him first.

Rechroming wheels takes the expertise of a dedicated wheel shop, the rims and the centers were originally plated separately and welded together. To rechrome them they must first be cut apart and then welded back together after plating.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Try giving these guys a call. They're in North Hollywood (L.A.):

They fixed my 22" wheels after they got bent. They didn't do any chrome work for me, but they do that as well.

Not exactly the most tactful people you'll talk to (they can be rude/abrassive sometimes - at least they lady I dealt with), but they did an amazing job on my wheels.

Thanks  guys, I'll call / email the ones suggested and get some prices / estimates.

Mr Kunkel , Thanks for adding some more insight, as you usually do when it comes to technical matters
funny - none of the sites I came across mentioned this, even the ones that had a fairly complete explanation of the chroming process, maybe not many shops get that in depth anymore ??

When you talk to them, ask for John, he's the owner, not a bad guy.

CalChromes website has a note that says--- "  Due to our workload we are not accepting steel wheel work at this time " .....  :-\

E-mail back from Vernes said " Sorry, no wheels at all ."    :ahum:

Hi Paul,

I have taken all my stuff to Art Brass not far from Boeing Field. They are not cheap but  the quality has been great. My bumper work was their "insurance" grade work not "show" work and they still look great after 10 years. I don't know if they do wheels or not. One time I had to wait 2 months other times only two weeks.

How are things with the supercar?

I sent artbrass an e-mail - no response yet.

Supercar is rather badass, you sit so low to the ground.  Seems to be no bodyroll, accelleration will pin you to the seat.  Its in my garage getting a blow-off valve fitted up.
Beyond 1000 miles on it , so am revving it past 5500 rpms now, could not keep traction at dragstrip on street tires at regular pressures, will need to drop pressure next time.    :drive:
Actually rides well and "sort-of" comfortable.  Haven't taken it to a track day yet...   Puts a grin on your face while cruising just like a musclecar.  Payments are a bitch of course.

Are you organizing a Covington meet this summer still  ?   I intend to drive it over if so.
