Are SB and BB Auto transmissions the same?

Just found out my BB transmission that came out of my 68 Charger is junk. It was the original tranny and the case is cracked in several important places. Transmission builder is looking for a core. Are the SB and BB A727 transmissions the same?

Also - if anyone in the Seattle area has a core for sale, let me know! Thanks!

Sorry but no they are not, different bolt pattern to the block.

But if you have a small block 727 already, you should have no trouble at all finding someone who'll trade you for a big block one.  The sb ones are pretty uncommon.

The SB and BB motors had different patterns on the back of the block for the tranny bellhousing.  (Don't you just LOVE the factory's choice to do that?)

The T-flites from that era basically fell into two categories:  The bigger/stronger 727 version for the BB motors, and the smaller/weaker 904 version for the SB motors.

The factory also built some of the performance SB motors (like the 4-barrel 340s for example) with a 727 version that wore the SB bellhousing pattern.  These are less common than the other two versions of T-flites.

Anyone in the seattle area have a CORE for sale?!  :'(

Death1970Proof

Even though the sb and bb transmissions have a different bellhousing size the guts are fully interchangeable  :2thumbs:
"Remember when I said this car was death proof? Well that wasnt' a lie-this car is 100%death proof- only to get the benefit of it honey you really need to be sitting in my seat"...

The case is the part that is all busted up, so I need the BB case.

If you have one - LMK. I'm sure shipping will suck.

It wouldn't hurt to try a few local boneyards or even some local tranny shops and see what you can find, you may be surprised.

RD

send me a pic of what you need to racedodge@hotmail.com  i know i have it.
