Fan shroud choice

Which shroud would you pick?

one piece plastic
two piece metal

Ghoste

I was already to order a shroud from our own Bill Allphin and I was going to go with the one piece 69 and up style because that was all he had available.  Just as I was about to pull the trigger, he posted about the availability of the two piece metal one which is correct for my car.  I jokingly mentioned something about that when he posted it even though my intention was still to go with the plastic one just because it was a little less money and my car is far from original in many ways.  A friend of mine caught wind of my comment and insists strongly that I should put the correct one just "because".
So which way would you go?

if it were me  :yesnod:  i would fit the shroud  that would of been available when the car was built  :2thumbs:

Ghoste,

The 2 piece metal shrouds that Bill Allphin is selling are for 22" '68's and older. Where did you see that your '69 needs a metal 2 piece? I am a newbieregarding '69's so it may be that a 2 piece was used.

Ahhh....   :P  Honest mistake. Go with the two piece. My '68 will be getting a set once I corral an 043 radiator.   :2thumbs:

If it were mine, I would install the OE 2 piece. But I'll add that with almost a $100 difference between the 2 shrouds avail. installing the plastic one would be hard to not think about it. Ultimately it comes down to what will make YOU happy.

Ghoste

Helping to keep the car cool will make me happy.  The 100 bucks makes some difference but only at the point of purchase, a year out will it mean more to me to have a correct one.  I originally thought no, but my buddy made a fair argument for the two piece last night and that's what has me second guessing it.

What's the rest of the engine look like?  If you're leaning towards original then by all means get the two piece.

A wise man >insert Bill< once told me, "It's the attention to detail that separates your car from the others."  :Twocents:

Is it a $100 difference, thought you need to buy those special brackets to make the 69 shroud work on a 68/67 and the brackets cost $70?

So wouldn't the cost difference to use a 69 instead of the 2 piece only be $30. That would no a no brainer to me!

I'm pretty sure I need brackets of some type for the metal one as well.  Underhood is not original in the car by any stretch.

what it comes down to if your starting from scratch and need both the mounting brackets and shroud

1966-68 = metal shroud and brackets for said shroud = $304
1969 plastic shroud and required metal brackets = $239
= a $65 dollar difference in total costs
the large flange nuts to secure said shrouds to there respective mounting brackets are $3 each  and 4 are required

both as if your using them on the same 1966 thru 1968 B-body 22" radiator

Well, I've got a couple things for you to ponder regarding this $65 difference, assuming that's correct. If one day you decide to go back to the original look there will be one less thing to worry about. Second, if you ever have to sell the car the new owner will have one less thing to worry about if he/she is concerned about originality. BTW, I don't recall how you're engine is configured but after much sweating on my part over locating a metal shroud I eventually discovered that my 383/2bbl/4spd never came with one. I will be getting one (most likely the two-piece repro) but I don't "have" to get one since mine never came with one. Is yours a 383?

Dans 68

Bull,

How do you know your 383 2-bbl 4-speed never came with one? You must have the buildsheet, correct?  :scratchchin:

Bull, your points are not so very different from the ones my buddy is making.

No build sheet, and I don't think I could tell you exactly how I traveled the convoluted route to discover that information. It was a lot like being lost in the woods for hours in the dark and suddenly stumbling onto a road (which I also have done). Anyway, I'll try to retrace my steps and get back to you.

Ah yes, here's the story. In a nutshell, the repair manual will tell you if it had one or not: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,29344.0.html :2thumbs:
