68 Charger Tail Light Paint Prep

Before I paint the black area on the face of the taillight assembly, I was wondering what ppl have used for prepping the chrome surface. In the past, I've had some issues painting directing over the chrome (Peeling, etc). Is there some sort of bonding agent I could apply before I spray.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

I use a gray Scotchbrite pad lightly then clean the chrome with a prep/cleaner.  Make sure there are no fingerprints or any marks or they will show up.
