OK i got the tag today the last line on it is   E86 D32 RM23 U0A17 6662  had to get the 6 from the back the front is really rusty

so according to doug this is a known car ?

Who ever owns the car can have it for my 150.00 investment .

dougs quote earlier

Lou's car was in very nice condition, so I doubt that tag is from his car.   I don't know where his old car currently is, but given the rust on the tag, it doesn't seem probable.

There is U0A176662, which surfaced for the first time in 2003 for sale, in good condition, with the same color and interior combo.   Curiously, the fender tag mounted on that car has a J99xxx special order number, which made no sense.   Only 999 Corporate Blue cars have had J99xxx numbers.    It is possible that 176662 has a reproduction fender tag with the wrong J number.   This is pure speculation on my part.

I think the car running around with that number has a repro tag, or worse.

Interesting oddity on that tag (at least I think there is)...  Isn't there supposed to be a space in between the plant designator and the VIN sequence number?

Spacing errors are common for Lynch Road tags.

Here is the last image flipped for easier reading.

I will run a blurb in the DSAC newsletter.   Like I said, someone was looking at a car with that VIN a few years back.   So the car is still around in some form.

Good Job Stuart!
it has to feel pretty good to have a part in reuniting documentation/BS/or FT with its original car.
Good Karma coming your way!

Glad to hear that one actually is going to make it back to the car it should. I have not had any luck with fender tags like that, but I did get a broadcast sheet back to the right car after buying it on Ebay.

Maybe someone will find my 70 bucket seats with the broadcast sheet in them.  Last seen in Southwest North Dakota  :2thumbs:
