If it is lou w car tag .I do recall this car which was orange and had 440 call outs on it

Lou's car was in very nice condition, so I doubt that tag is from his car.   I don't know where his old car currently is, but given the rust on the tag, it doesn't seem probable.

There is U0A176662, which surfaced for the first time in 2003 for sale, in good condition, with the same color and interior combo.   Curiously, the fender tag mounted on that car has a J99xxx special order number, which made no sense.   Only 999 Corporate Blue cars have had J99xxx numbers.    It is possible that 176662 has a reproduction fender tag with the wrong J number.   This is pure speculation on my part.

I will look at my superbird list and see if I see another 62 ending vin

Title: Data Plate 70 Plymouth Superbird

Condition: Used

Description
I retired and relocated recently.  In moving I found a box of data plates and VIN tags from MOPARs I have owned, sold or scrapped over the years.  Since 1970 I've gone through over 150 of the cars. Remember there was a day when these cars were worth virtually nothing.  Many were stripped and scrapped.  Each time I scrapped or sold a builder car I kept the emblems and data plates to have a souvenier of the car.  I loved the cars and never expected them to be worth much more than they were then.  I'm guessing if the cars are still around the owner would like to have the original data plate and if it is one of the cars sent to salvage these make really neat collectors pieces.

This is a great tag it's for a hemit orange 70 Superbird I bought in Chattanooga, TN.  This car sat for years with lawn mowers parked under the nose cone.  I'm embarassed to tell you what I paid for this one!  What a deal. It was a 440 4 BBL with a T/F, buckets and console.  Tag is in fair conditionand.  It is difficult to make out the 3rd number of the sequence number.  VIN is RM23U0A17_662.

Only 999 Corporate Blue cars have had J99xxx numbers.

can you explain that better?  i happen to have my bcast sheet RIGHT HERE, and yes, it's J99525...  do you know any more?  i thought those were nearly completely random, and that the 999 cars were built in batches?

Alaskan_TA

I'll give it a try....

Any 1970 special order paint car would have a J prefix VON.

Some other special order cars like the Superbird had J prefix VONs as well.

So, if you had a special order car, with special order paint, the J prefix changed.

This left us with J97xxx & J98xxx (going up sequentially) for Superbird & J99xxx for a Superbird with special order paint.

Alaskan_TA

The special order 1970 Chrysler Hurst cars were J99xxx cars as well.

It is definitely not 171662.  You can see that digit is clearly not a 1, and does not appear to me to have anything to represent the top of an 8.     I would still vote that it is 176662.

Nice!  :2thumbs: Let's hope the car shows up. You got off easy only dropping $100.

ps- Anyone remember when member PistolPete won a bunch of tags? He said he would try and reunite the $600 worth of fender tags he bought with the current owners of the cars (for a fee), but did that ever happen? Still wondering where those tags sit today.  :scratchchin:
