A friend of mine went to a barn sale and spotted what he thinks is a '66 Ford Galaxie (might be a '65) in the corner covered in dust. On the windshield he said someone took white shoe polish and wrote $4300 but he said it looks like it was written years and years ago so he asked if it was still for sale and the woman told him an old man about 90 years old owns it and she thinks he would sell it, so she gave him the name and number and he gave it to me.
I'm not super interested in it but a quick google search shows that a few were built with the 427 and are pretty rare.
Anyone know how to quickly spot a 427?

might be just an old grampa model but I have to check it out.

i belive the 427's had special badgeing,.. good luck, hope it pans out...

GTA badged cars  had 390s and maybe 427s or is it the GT had a 390 and the GTA had the 427  :scratchchin:

I think the '66 Galaxie's are the best looking Galaxies made. I wouldn't mind one. Good luck

You are thinking Fairlane and Mustang, No such thing as a Galaxie GT. If it has a 427 i will have a "7 Litre" badge in the grille otherwise it might have the Engine size on the front fender behind the wheel.

Brock Samson

that's it,.. i had a dim recollection of the 7 litre thing, how very Europian...

I know the Fairlanes could be optioned as a GT, which had the 4- speed, and the GTA had the Automatic. They usually had the 390 or better in them. I have a friend of mine that has a 66 GT and a 67 GTA. Both are cool.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

I was always sort of partial to the 64's for some reason. I'm thinking about going to a 2 day estate auction this weekend to see what this brings. The guy supposedly had a dozen old fords including Pintos  :eek2:  that are still in the barn.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

I talked to the owner on the phone...
its was originally yellow with black interior but now brown paint  :eek2: , 390 automatic, 48k miles, has some dings from sitting in a barn but he said very very solid car.
Hasn't been running in years and gas tank has been empty, he said he'd like to get 4 grand for it.
I'm going to see it some time this week hopefully, I'll take some pics.

There is a good article in this months Hemmings Muscle Machines (July 2008)  on the 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 7 litre.According to the article one needs to look at the 5th digit of the VIN. Q-code for the 428, W-code and R-code for the 427. Only 36 hardtops and 2 convertibles built with the 427. I kinda like them, but for the money I'd take a 66 Charger. I know where a 66 convertible is sitting with the 7 litre badges and a 4 speed, but the owner said he knows what it is and is not going to sale.I did trade him a 59 ford 2 door for a 73 Satellite, he loves Fords. Good luck with getting that car.
