Flaws in the painted parts

I am getting my car painter by a person who paints show cars on the side and I've told this guy that my car will be a daily driver; but I told him that I still want him to paint my car to that kind of quality. Well I picked up some parts Saturday that he painted, without looking them over for any flaws and such; I did that at home.  :brickwall: Big mistake won't happen again. Some of the parts were great and some had paint runs, drip spots, missing clear coat, didn't get painted in little areas so its just bare metal showing; :flame: nothing is perfect but come on. Of course I will be taking those parts back to him to get them fixed. What gets me I pay him and this is what I get in return, yes I have seen the cars he has done. But I didn't talk to any of the owners which I should have done,  :slap: so I will be doing that now, it's kind of late in the game, but never to late to ask.

I guess what I am trying to say is how many have been in this type of situation and did it get better?

what parts did you get painted and how much did he charge you? I think you should've looked parts over carefully before picking them up.

Uh oh!  Woulda, coulda, shoulda.  Hopefully he'll fix his flaws without problem. Good luck  :scratchchin:

I know exactly what you mean.  I had a high dollar place do work on mine because everything they do was over the top and looked great.
Even when I see stuff they're working on at the same time as mine, it looks great. Now here is the kicker! my car always looks like crap.  There is always an excuse every time, but it looks like crap no matter what.

Stay on them and make them do it over and get it right, at their time and cost!

well the parts I picked up was hood base plate where the hood latches too, afew bumper brackets the rear bumper brackets, interior parts, yeah I know some of the parts none can really see, but if there is metal showing then rust comes next :'(. well for the whole package from doing the body work to painting the car he will not charge me more then 15K. the car itself is solid/ in great shape; born on the west coast it has only been on the east coast for like a year. some fender damage fixed now all is left for now is walnut blasting the inside and welding up unwanted holes here and there. and of course painting odds and ends

Couple of things -  there is no excuse for crappy work, BUT, you said the guy is doing the work on the side, so if a dispute arises, will you be protected? Is he doing it cheaper than a shop, is that why you went there, to  save money? If you're getting the work cheap, you'll also be getting cheap work.
Never, ever, ever, pick up completed work from anyone without first checking it over.  Make sure everything is tickity-boo before loading any parts. If it's not what you expect, make sure the painter knows it immediately.

no cutting corners on this, when I was on the west coast had some quotes around 13K and when I got transfer to the east coast found only a few people in the area that did restorations. one person said 13K but would not do under the car, one guy didn't know what a unibody was aka mopar lived in the boonies. the guy that is doing the car now is doing all body work and painting; he came out and checked out the car and gave a good time frame which has passed and gone already. I was suppose to have back in April, now he says another 2 or 3 months  ::)   I will post pics Monday

There is the problem right there, Said 15k & will be done by April. I've worked at 20 shops like this in past 20 years & all out of Business or switched to doing new cars & no more old cars.

Right click the image where ever it's at and highlight "rename" to whatever you want.

And sometimes here you have to get completely out of the reply box and start over I've found.  At least on my end.
