Stupid question pertaining to ground strap for fuel sending unit

Ok, I know our 68-70 Chargrs got this cheapo ground strap that jumped the rubber fuel line from the sending unit to the steel gas line, but did all Chrysler products get them?  I thought I fixed my dads fuel gauge on their new 70 chally vert since I found the brass float got a hole and leaked in gas.  I replaced the float and it still does not work.  There is no ground strap on this either.  Does it need it?  I tested the gauge out by grounding the sending unit wire and it worked perfectly.  Now only if I can get it to work the way it was intended..... :brickwall:

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Ok, thats what I thought John.  Just wanted to be sure.  I was hoping that would fix the problem.   Time shall tell as soon as I get a ground strap.

You could clip lead it to ground for a test until you get the correct ground strap.

I got it but didn't mounted yet. Used a regular wire inserted between hose and outlets on both ends and DONE!

And don't forget, the metal fuel line needs a good connection to the body through it's mounting clips.

If the fuel line is not grounded, the strap between the sending unit and the line will not do anything.

COKE

I have a clamp with a a ground wire attached to the bolt.
It does work fine

Ok, good news!!!  I temporarily soldered a wire onto the sending unit and a solderless connector to the other end where the fuel line clamp attached and whoola..... the fuel gauge works!  As soon as the correct ground strap comes in, it will be fixed the way it was designed.
