I was trying to chase down a lean idle condition on my charger today (440 auto, stock intake, eddy 1406 carb) thought it was more to do with the idle mixture screws but when they really had no effect on it I sprayed some carb cleaner around intake gasket area (mainly in center on both sides) and the idle sped up and smoothed out. Leaking intake gasket I'm assuming. I ordered Fel pro 1215 (I was told these are what I need-is that right?)  http://www.jegs.com/i/Fel+Pro/375/1215/10002/-1
My question is are there any tricks to changing the gaskets or is it pretty straight forward?

Very easy just takes a few minutes. Just unbolt your intake manifold and take those 6 small bolt out that hold the tin valley pan on and put on your new one, put the 6 small bolts  and hold down rails on and then your manifold and your done BUT before you put your valley pan on make SURE you use silicon around the edges underneath of it so oil doesnt come out from under the valley pan. Actually I have never used the gaskets with the valley pan I always used just the pan becuase it is the gasket  :Twocents:.

also what was your engine doing while driving?

I didn't really notice much while driving (but I don't really drive it that often) the main things I did notice were hesitation at times and more recently it would surge under load intermittantly almost like it was starving for fuel but straighten out if I let off (it has a new fuel pump & filter and fuel pressure is measuring @6psi)

okay guys i need your opinion on this. I replaced the intake gaskets and the carb gaskets fired it up and at first it seemed better but after it warmed up I still had a problem on the passenger side(when spraying carb cleaner into the area around the exhaust crossover port  the idle smooths out and speeds up).

I used the valley pan and the paper gaskets that came with the kit. siliconed the paper gaskets to both sides of the valley pan and torqued to 40 lbs. is it possible that the intake is warped, a head concern, or did I just not get a good seal with the gaskets? I took the manifold back off and can not see any obvious problems with manifolds or cyl heads. Note these are not my heads just a picture I found showing the ports
