My Trany is out - any thoughts?

The strangest thing – Everything was going well, took my car to a photo shoot and then when I was going to leave my electronic ignition (new) went out, then on the way home my trany would not shift into 3rd gear. Got home and discovered there is no reverse.

Trany fluid is clean, and it shifts into drive and grabs great, then shifts from 1st into second like new but will not go to 3rd. Trany fluid if full. Could it be a "band issue" or is it toast???????? We were to leave for a big show today with my sons newly completed 72 charger – we are sad.

id guess either a band, or a spring in the hydrolic system that tells it when it shift.
Thats the worst it could be.

DON"T PANIC:
Try this:

drop it N and see i fit moves. Maybe ur linkage is out and it thinks its in 2?

drop it all the way to 1, then back to park a few times(SLOWLY!), and try N then Drive.

im not a tranny guy, but i have a 727 that hates me << so ive learned a few tricks.

If it shifts to 2nd there is nothing wrong with the kickdown band or the planetaries.

3rd gear and Reverse use the front clutch so the problem lies there, either the lip seals or the sealing rings are leaking or the clutch discs are fried. No easy fix, it needs to come apart.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

You got it. My trany guy said the same. Had a spare untested trany from my sons car – We pulled it this morning at 10:00 and had the "no man's land" trany in by 3:00 pm and were on the road to Muscle Beach Cruz by 4:30 and I am in our Hotel room now. Time for some Mopars to kick some butt. BTW the Trany – believe it or not - worked great. Too funny.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.
