well i tell ya this site sure is helping me out i must have 3 -4 threads going thank god for the smart people here anyway im working on the brakes and while under the car i spotted a leak more like a puddle under neath the steering box it turns out it looks like it leaking at where the column goes in  theres a ring with grooves cut into it i assume to take it apart it appears as tho its leaking there can this seal be fixed in the car or does box have to come out and if so how bad is it to take out with headers on a 383?

I have a leak too, but is small. I think is on the lower seal. Could it be replaced on place ?

it its a small leak, how about trying a power steering leak sealant fluid? worth a shot...

I had a small leak in my power steering box when i bought my Charger in 1995. I added a small amount of brake fluid. The brake fluid expands the seals and stopped the leak until I replaced the steering box six years later.
Mine's also a 383 with Hedman Headers. Had to jack the engine up to get the steering box out.

The box will have to come out, and it's a big job. You should be able to get a rebuilt steering box from your local parts store. They will want your old one for a core. Find someone that's familiar will the job thought because you need to remove your steering shaft as well as disconnect the pitman arm from the box (and that could be an adventure itself).

i have replaced all of my imput seals on all four of my cars, without taking the steering box out.
i have also done a few for friends.
i take a sharp, small center punch and drive it through the seal, then it prys right out.
i then put sealer around the new seal and drive it in place.
you can buy the seal at advance auto.
this takes me about 1/2 hour because i have tight headers.

hope this helps :icon_smile_wink:

Send it to Firm Feel. They did a great job on mine, its looks like new. And my leaks were gone. Turn aroun was 10 days, cost was well worth it.
