timing mark question

hi guys i hear you guys talk about initial timing and full timing im trying to time mine it running very rich its a stock 383 bored 30 over has an edelbrock performer intake edelbrock 750 carb and the mp electronis iginition  the bok says about 12 and a half degrees  timing but i only hae 3 timing marks 10 before 0 and 10 after how di i figure out where im suppose to be?

What book says the timing is 12 1/2 degrees? Stock setting should be 5 degrees before tdc.

book i have says 12.5 before tdc at 750 rpm

i retimed car and out it what i belive to be 12.5 before tdc its still real rich but much smooether if the  plugs fouled due to richness are they pretty much toast or will they clean up ?
