does the torsion bar crossmember gotta come out to drop the 4 speed tranny? I have everything else unbolted and out of the way, but still cant get tranny out, surely I ain't gotta to take out the torsion bars then the crosmember, do I?

man i cant imagine you would have to. did you pull the shifter and shifter mounting bracket off?   you could let the engine hang down in the back for extra clearance.  i personally have no experiance with a 73 though.

Isn't there a smaller removable crossmember between the torsion bars?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

on the 70 and back yes, the tranny crossmember bolts between the torsoin bar mounts. i can only assume the newer ones have the same set up, should be 4 long bolts and nuts if so

I got the shifter off, but one of the allen head bolts holding the mounting bracket on is stripped, so the bracket is still on. If I had the mounting bracket off I believe I could slide the tranny back another inch or so.

On my 69 the tranny crossmember is between the torsion bar mounts, but on the 73 you have a tranny crossmember, and torson bar cross member, both are removeable, but to get the TB crossmember out, the TB have to be removed. Hoping I wasn't gonna have to do this.

I removed my tranny some time ago, and I didn't remember I did need to remove anything beside the small tranny cross member where tranny mounts goes.

Got the shifter bracket off.... still can't get the tranny out, I got it shoved back as far as I can and the input shaft still likes an inch or so clearing the bellhousing. This car is kicking my ass.
