Any tips on how to release the original white plastic straps that run on the left side of the engine bay. I'm changing the battery cables and would like to not damage the original straps.

You should get acces through the wheel opening, inside the fender. Depress the tabs and push

Mmm sorry! I was thinking on a fasteners taped into the harness. The straps you meant I guess are those close to the master cylinder/brake booster. They are insterted on hole then the strap pin inserts to itself on the inserted piece like a button. I guess you can pry it up to open the strap. Or also push the center pin out  from wheel opening side

Good luck. Plastic doesn't age well, especially not with the heat under the hood. Those things are probably super brittle and will break pretty easy. But like Nacho said, just be gentle. One trick I have used in the past on similar things is to find a tube about the size of the peg and slide it over it. Has to be tight enough to compress the fingers together and it should release. Done this at work a fair bit with circuit board mount tabs in arcade games.

If you don't get success trying to open it safe, don't worry, repro replacements are available

Thank you to all. I was able to release them so they could be reused.
