I have a 1977 dodge 400 2brl.  I have replaced many parts just to get her running again and we are almost there but it dies on throttle tip in.  If I give it WOT it takes of great even smoke the tires but under normal accel it will die or sometime back fire through the carb.  The only way I can even drive it is to advance the timming about 20 degrees and then it will take off ok but of course it pings.  I have installed new carb, fuel pump, filter, plugs, cap, rotor, wires.  Thanks for any help.
Thats how I roll.

timing chain really loose it sounds like.  77's had the ceramic timing chain (single, non-roller), you could have a lot of slack or a bad timing chain sprocket causing the continual need for timing adjustment.
