How does the glove box door latch mount? (68 Charger)

The glove box door latch on my charger is a piece of wire with 2 loops on either end. I don't understand how it mounts to the dash frame? Does it go on top or on the bottom? Is it a screw/bolt combination? Any help appreciated.

Bumping. Could use a picture of glovebox mounting solutions. Mine is a very short "wire" stlye loop. I don't see how you mount it.

I have never seen that on a 68 or 69, because the door is spring loaded and opens in the up position.
Maybe on a 70 where the glove box door opens in the down position and the cable is to hold the weight of the door. Kinda, sorta make sense???

Here's the latch I have. You can see the other kind (on the left) which clearly has no holes to mount. If anyone has a latch like this, can you send me a picture?

The one on the left is definitely the correct one for a 68-69 Charger....can you post a full pic of your dash assy....seeing your other A/C part post I'm wondering if you have another model dash frame installed?

yikes. the latch on the left I bought online. The one on the right it what came with the car (which was in bad shape) 

What specifically could give away that I have a dash from another car vs. a charger? I'm in the re-assembly process so it's in various states of being put back together...

The wire one is the correct one for your car. It's another one of those early-late '68 things. The way you are holding it in your second pic is the way it mounts. Sheet metal screws go down through the dash frame and through the loops on the wire, then into a flat piece of sheet metal with 2 holes in it that act as the nuts for the screws. I have the same style on my '68. I tried to upgrade it to the later screen door style catch, but the latch on my glove box door is too worn out to work with the newer style so I had to go back to the solid wire style until I find a better glove box latch. If your latch is in good shape, you may want to consider drilling holes farther apart and using the newer style, it's a much better design.

Awesome, thanks. Those must be some big sheet metal screws! Those holes are huge! Is there a washer or anything that goes between the screw and the dash frame? If you could take a pic of yours it would be very much apprecaited.

Here's mine. I think the screws are the same size as the ones holding in the liner and the hinge. The holes on each side are from my earlier mentioned attempt at upgrading to the newer style. You can also see the metal plate on the bottom which I cut in the middle to move the screw holes out to use the new latch, but it didn't work so I had to put the old one back in for now.

The reason I think your previous attempt at installing the newer style didn't work, is because it also needs to mount underneath like the wire style. So you'd need to cut a longer U shape in the dash as well. If you mount on top I don't think it would work - look where the latch parts are in my picture - both at the same point. If you mounted the newer style on top of the dash, it would sit quite a bit higher! Perhaps why it's not catching!
