speedometer not working after transmission swap

my speedometer isnt working at all since i put in a new transmission today, ive swapped the whole assembly from the old transmission and it doesnt read anything. what would cause this?

make sure you adjusted the speedo gear holder thingy to the correct position (which corresponds to the number of teeth on the gear itself)
