Any problems running a Holley 770 on a 500hp 440?

The machine shop is telling me that they think the 770 is a good fit for my rebuilt 440.  Any thoughts?

It should work fine.  But most guys here will probably recommend going to an 850 to maximize the engines potential.   Bob

If i was looking to run a vac secondary carb it would be the Proform Street series 750. 

The PF 750's flow ~ 830 cfm which is plenty for a hot street 440

If you are referring to the Avenger 770, you're going to find it's set up way too mild for a true 500 hp big block. It's jetted fairly lean, and the pump shot is real lean too.

You say "rebuilt 440". That doesn't tell us much. If it is a stock rebuild (closer to 350-400 hp) the 770 Avenger will work fine. 500 hp needs more carb... like the 870, but even it will need some tuning out of the box.

Or throw on a tried and true 850 DP. It will run great out of the box, but fuel mileage will suck.
