Trans is leaking at speedo cable. I bought new cable but when I tried installing it I found the threads where totallly cockeyed. I put it on anyway and of course, it still leaks!

Is this detachable from the trans and if so does anyone know how I can get it?

the cable shouldnt be expected to seal it.

There are 2 o-rings in the speedo gear housing , a big one around the housing and a small one that seals where the post of the speedo gear comes through.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Thats correct, you can run it with out the cable attached and it should not leak. You need to change the seals in the speedo gear housing or grab another one, pretty easy to find though so it won't be to bad, good luck.
