Casting: 10-30-69, 2536430-5
PAD: G440, 11 10HP2
VIN PAD: 10148059 or 1C148059 or 1G148059

A friend of mine emailed me this and I cannot make heads or tails of it.  The VIN shows a 1971 block, but he stated that it was a 1969 by looking a the casting date on the side of the block.

Any idears?

The way I read the charts, a 71 440 would have have the same casting numbers as you posted.

The block was cast in Oct of 69 and sat around a year until it was assembled in November of 1970.
10 on VIN pad is incorrect.
1C makes it out of a C body
1G makes it out of a B body

is this usual?  I mean a whole year?  did they just misplace the block or something?  How does the 1G make it out of a B Body?  Only B Body's came from the St. Louis plant or something?

thanks,
Jamey

is this usual? It's been known to happen  I mean a whole year?  did they just misplace the block or something? :shruggy: Hard to know where it was stashed but by the casting date and stampings, it was assembled a year later than it was cast How does the 1G make it out of a B Body?  Only B Body's came from the St. Louis plant or something?B bodies came from other plants but the only other plant besides the Jefferson plant that makes sense with that partial stamping is the G for STL and STL build 440 B bodies.

thanks,
Jamey
