1967 charge hood release cable

I'm helping my dad out in the restoration of his 67 charger.  He has two parts cars and both of them have what appear to be factory or dealer installed hood release cables in the dash.  Does anyone know if this was an option or just something put on in the aftermarket?  They look original to me, but his car doesn't have one.

It was a standard feature on the 66 Charger but it was dropped for the 1967 models.  If the parts cars are 66 then it's factory but if they are 67, then they are an add-on.
