Does anyone know how to remove the parking brake release handle?

I tried to remove the parking brake release handle on my 73 because it's missing the spring and the grommet that keeps it from falling of the bracket. But I cracked the handle in half trying to punch out the roll pin on the handle. What kinda punch do I need? Will I be able to remove it will it's installed? It's a small roll pin.

Uh, you need a small punch?? 

Seriously, if you don't have a punch small enough, use the blunt end of a small brad nail. That's worked for me before.
