Today I disassembled a -68 440 I bought for my stroker project. Block has original bore with almost no visible wear, but when I took the pistons out all the toprings brooke off
or they already were brooken in 2. I never had this before, anybody else?  :scratchchin:

I have taken pistons out that had the land between the ring grooves broken, so I can believe piston rings in pieces. Sounds like very little to no damage was done by it, so sounds like a bit of good luck there.

Broken rings are not uncommon...especially in high milage engines that have been beat on.  :Twocents:

I think it was a quick and dirty resto, new eddy dual carb installation and nice paint. In the bottom of the oilpan I could dig out 1/2 inch thickness of metalshit.
Now it will go to the machineshop for testing and a new bore, then it should be ready for 500 fresh cubic inches.  :2thumbs:
