This is a LONG story so I'll try to be brief. Came across a guy who claimed to have a 69 Charger that he wanted to sell. This guy is a bit of a screwball... but you know what you have to go through at times to get some of these cars. Any way saw pictures of the car supposedly in storage in SE Wisconsin. Put up a some earest money and got a clean title and keys. Not a duplicate title & bill of sale.  Though the DMV I found out the car was registered in the state - under a duplicate title i would presume. The title in my possession predates the last registration. HMMMMMMM... Car was blue in the pics with a big scoop on the hood and supposedly a HEMI although the title shows it to be a 383 originally. Car was supposedly run at Great Lakes Dragaway. Any body seen it?
Thanks

i havent seen the car. but ive seen enough of this kind of crap to know its not good. look at the whole wheelstanding general lee thing. someone had a duplicate title, and had bought the car LEGALLY. then someone who had a original title that predated came and pretty much IMO stole it from the guy who had bought it legally. it was just a huge mess.

good luck with it.

So you bought a title to a car you don't have and don't know the location?  I don't follow  ???

A long story, no!  A confusing one, yes.

I've owned a lot of cars, but I can honestly say that I've never put up any money on a car that I haven't seen yet.
Good luck, you're going to need it.

I think it's strange when someone posts with some wild and/or amazing story and never returns, yet we git all riled up, especially these '06 sedan posts..

I just think its weird that people can fly anywhere in the U.S for a few hundred bucks or less, but rather than "wasting" money on a ticket or gas to go look at the car they would rather spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a rusty pos without looking at it.   ::)  Thats just me though, Tipopiola :icon_smile_big:

Maybe he's out looking for his car today.

what just happened to you is usually accompanied by a large jar of vaseline, an expensive dinner, or a at least a nice piece of jewelry....

ok, if this is true, and its an ORIGIONAL WI title signed by the owner. then you do own this charger, but you will nead to find it, claim it, and go through lots of legal BS.  a duplicate WI title has a statement saying something about it being subject to reassignment from the origional title.

adauto

ChrisII.. you seem to have the correct concept on this whole thing. Yes in Wisconsin, originall title takes legal precedent over a duplicate. The car is in the state but our DMV will not devulge further info. I fugured if someone had some legit info.. ! I could press charges on the guy I dealt with (which by the way owes the state a BAZILLION Dollars in past child support). And just maybe get the car in the end, the monies collected would all go to the state. Unless the state would release it possible but I know the size of the judgement..not freakin likely! Just for grins last 4# of the vin 8433. I can also understand that if the current holder( I'm careful of using the word "owner" at this point) of the vehicle see's this post, he may be reluctant to come forward. But strange things happen...

I guess it depends on who you are saying stole it and who you think legally owns it. The ex-wife who sold the car illegaly had no right to do so and the husband who lost the car is the legal owner IMO.
