3rd Gen Standard Gauge Cluster Fuel Guage not working.

OK,
  I put a different gauge cluster in my 74' Satellite today. When I first turned the car on the Fuel gauge went all the way from "F" to "E".
The car has a full tank of gas and the old cluster I took out read correctly.

I am pretty sure I hooked it all back up correctly.
Help.

Hey let me know what u find out put new steering colum in and all gauges work except the gas

well, in first instance, is not posible hook wrong an standart cluster

what I think could it be is the pins on printed circuit board got damage on the plug in process, what is not rare... I had to repair 2 or 3 clusters iwith that fail, with pins loosen, adding some tin, soldering the pins to the printed circtuit board trace

Well,
I took the cluster back out, checked everything. I then found that the ground from the steering column was not very good, fixed that and now the Fuel gauge works properly.
I have been doing some work on this Satellite and I will have to post some progress pic's.
