I have 69 charger i'm putting new harness in from year one, i want to put electronic ignition in also what is the best to use MSD/or one from mopar performance? i have not bought either one yet so would like help thank you tom

myk

Well, if you're refering to the multiple spark boxes, the Mopar Performance unit is actually MSD's box but with the Mopar label on it.  At this point, it's just a matter of personal preference: do you want the red box or the black one.

Also, which engine harness are you using?  Go for the harness that 's wired for electronic ignition and dual field alternator while you're at it...

is there a part# for that harness from year one? also would the dash harness be any different for the electronic ignition thanks for your help

myk

Here's the part number: http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?cat=1

And no, the dash harness wouldn't be any different.  The car'll be better off, though...

there is actually a discussion on Moparts about what ignition box to use. There is in fact a comparision table and some other experiences about strips. Ppl says about experiences NOT A BIG AND REALLY NOTICEABLE diff between an Orange box ( note is being compaired ORGANGE, NOT CHROME OR GOLD ) and a MSD or any other aftermarket ignition system. Maybe there is a diff on drag races or some other pro race kind, but not to street or small amateur or fun strips.

If so, then my opinion is why spend $400 if you can spend about $60 with allmost same results ?

I think you can get more with a HiPo dist and coil than just the HiPo ignition control box

here is the thread... take your conclusions. Of course not a personal experience and I can't say really anything about:

I went with Chromed Mopar box, simply because I won't cut anything. The guy who gave me the Mopar Box told me is a great box, ALLMOST like a MSD ( saving design and working differences of course ). He has used both.

MSD is nice and reliable, also if you get the MSD 6AL you also get the tunable rev-limiter.
