broke my motor in tonight ran it for 20 minutes at 2000 rpm sounds healthy and strong  after break in we let it sit for a few minutes  checked for leaks and what not all good except for one tranny line and pan is leaking slighty minor fix however after my freinds left i decided to start it one more time this time it was hard to start had to hold gas to the floor (as if it was flooded) when it did finally start  it ran terrible smelled terribly rich holding gas down a little smoothed it out but still rich smelling.. after i shut it off i noticed carbeurator was filling up ,,,,,,, why would it do that? opening the throttle  the gas ran down and could see a lot of smoke 1st thought was filter or line was to close to enigne and that the fuel was actually boiling but both are cool to the touch ,,,, its a brand new edelbrok 750 carb so i dont suspect a problem with it but who knows pulled number one plug out and it was black carbon on it ..... i left it alone for a few and restarted it this time it seemed ok idled fine is responsive at idle has a slight stumble but timing light quit so i know timing isnt quite on  this time carb didint fill up when i shut it off ... anyone ever have this happen .. stats on motor is stock 383  bored 30 over 750 edelbrok carb and aluminum manifold with headers

all fixed one of the gaskets in the carb (venturi booster) was some how messed up took carb apart replaced it blew all debri out... runs good now still here a slight ticking but not sure if its the rockers lifters or the headers how long after break in do lifters get settled and rockers?

I broke my 440 in doing the 20 min fast idle also.  I don't have any tick issues and I would think you shouldn't.  Leaky header gaskets sound like that also?  What are you using for oil.  I always like thicker than thinner.  The only bad oil I ever used that made motors tick was Castrol, I changed to Valvoline 20/50 and the problem went bye bye. ( It was on a Subaru at the time ).
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

i used rotella 15-40 and comp cam breakin additive

The ticking noise could be just a lifter that isn't pumped up....it usually corrects itself.  :yesnod:

I would change the oil and filter asap to purge the breakin lube and small metal particles thare are suspended in your oil.  ;) You should also continue to use an additive like the Comp breakin lube or EOS to boost the extreme pressure additive protection.   :2thumbs:
