Hello Everybody

I decided to start a new thread that would pertain only to the restoration of this car and not information that was included in my other thread.

It has been quite some time since I posted on this site and figured now was as good a time as any to drop on in. When I originally started my other thread I was in the process of having my 72 Ralley 340 4 SPD restored and had lots of questions and received a lot of good input from several of you. The restoration was started in late 2005, the car is nearing completion and I am told will be ready for Carlisle in less than two months.

I have several pictures of the car that have been taken during the restoration process and I would like to start posting some of them so that all of you can see what kind of work has been done and where this project currently stands.

One of the few remaining decisions I have to make on this car is what type of wheel I would like to put on the car. I would like your opinions and any pics that you might be willing to share of 3rd gen wheel tire combos to hopefully help in making my decision a little easier, I have received several 70 and 71 Rally wheel combos (Trim Rings and Center Caps) pictured on  72 Ralley's and I am somewhat leaning in that direction but am still open to Prostars, Dragstars and a few others, so if you have anything that you would like to add than by all means please do.

Thanks again

P.S The first few pictures are going to be repeats of the car being torn down just to keep this thread in order, so please bear with and enjoy.

To Have the car redistripped like that was $2200,00 but it did a really nice job.

What is the bennefit of dipping rather than DA to bare metal, I know it is quicker but $2200 will buy abunch of sand paper :Twocents:

What did it look like after stripping? What is the complete process. Also, 2200.00 may buy alot of sandpaper but how many hours would it take to DA and strip the ENTIRE car???

To each his own I guess, when I was ready to have this project started having the car dipped was an expense that I had already factored in to the restoration, dipping I felt was going get into more of the nooks and crannies of the undercarriage, interior and trunk area and I guess at the time i was looking for the detail of stripping the vehicle that dipping would provide.

I unfortunately do not have access to the pictures of the car being delivered after it was dipped, I forgot to bring them back with me after my last R/R. When I am home in July I will make sure to get them scanned and posted for any of you that might want to see them. I do however have pictures of the car on the rotisserie down to the bear metal and will be posting those.

Here are a few shots of the car before any metal prep work had been started to give you an idea of what the metal looks like once it is stripped.

Here are some rust pics in the usual 3rd gen spots, rear quarters and trunk extensions.

Some more rust pics

A few more rust pics and then I promise I will stop. The majority of rust was in the usual spots,I.E rear quarters, inner rear quarters and the notorious trunk extensions.
