not sure if i'm putting this in the right place, but i've got a 72 charger that originally had a small block in it, and i'm putting a 77 model 440 out of an rv in it, what kind of engine mounts do i need to get?? also oil pan?? and i'm wanting to replace the stock rearend with an 83/4 would one out of a c-body work??

MoParMetal

you can reuse the mounts, but you'll need the big block brackets.
you can get them from schumacher.
oil pan i think is the same.
i think the C-body rear you may have to move in the spring perches.

Not sure but on 72 werent the torsion bar diameter and sway bar larger for the BB engines? I know in 73 the sway bar diameter was larger.

Big Lebowski

Yep, you need bigger everything, and get Schumachers new poly lock style motor mount (can't break it) They rule. :2thumbs:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

TheGhost

I think you'll have to cut down the C body 8 3/4 to make it work.  Too wide otherwise.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

what do i need to ask for on the mounts??? or can i just fabricate em???  anybody got a pic so i can see what i need to look for?? this will be the first car on this hill getting a big block put in it, so....... not too sure on much about it.

Any regular car oil pan will work. You will need a new pickup tube also.
A C-body 8-3/4 rear will work. Early 70's or so year. Measure against your old one. You can find axle width charts on the web for comparison. The C-body ones that work are only 1/2 inch wider and will bolt right in place. You do not have to relocate the spring perches, but you may have to shim them to get the right driveline angle.
Schumacher mounts are the easy way to go. I wouldnt bother making your own.

where to get shuchmacher mounts??

i got an 83/4 out of a 71-72 newport, and i've also got a 65 newport sitting in the yard, with an 83/4 i'll measure each one when the rain stops.

thanks for the pics moparmetal

is there a motormount that i can go to the parts house and ask for?? or is there a special motor mount for putting a big block in a small block car??

MoParMetal

just get motormounts for 72 440. just tell them for a charger. you can get brackets from schumacher at www.engine-swaps.com
or you can get their new poly loc mounts.

on 73/74 all T bars were the same to V8s, except for police/special packages, but 72 and earliers were diff T bars with every block.

Sway bars are diff between block in all years.

rear axle will fit, but they are diff lenght, maybe longer or shorter ( yeah even could it be shorter )Once I measured a 68 or so Newyorker rear axle and was shorter than mine by around half of inch, not just diff perches location. Need to take care about the year of axle, since 72 B body spring setup is not isolated, and mostly sure C body are.
