Hey guys,

I have a T4R (wife's car (Toyota 4Runner), recently, well the last year the check engine light has been on.  Well let's back up on min.  When the light 1st came on it was a bad o2 sensor that sits behind the CAT.  After going to Toy and shelling out: Twocents: I got the correct one and the car ran great for a stretch.  Then the Engine light came back on.  I went to the local auto store and the pimple face kid runs the computer thing.  Comes up with a bad 02 sensors, gas cap, and dirty fuel injectors.  Said the car was running lean.  Well I figured it was a bad sensor and the computer just wasn't reset so I had him clear the error and life was good for @ month.  Then the light came back.  I chose to ignore it.  That was a bad move.  Now to the present.  I recently had my local garage who has done work for me in the past with a good rep due a oil change and check the stupid Engine light.

They too said it was running lean.  So they kept the car for a while and found another bad O2 sensor further down on the exhaust and replace the fuel filter which I am fairly sure this is the 1st time since it rolled off the factory floor.  Current mileage is 135000.  I was disheartened by what was given to me.  The mechanic showed me the Fuel filter remains it was full of a carbon film, which is most likely up in my fuel rails and injectors.

So how do I clean this out?  I know there is "Fuel injector cleaner" but is that my best way to go?  I read that for a small fee they can run some solution through them to clean them pretty thoroughly.  Is this something an OK/parttime mechanic could do - ie~ME.
Or is there some good off the self product that you can recommend that will clean it by adding it to the gas tank?

Anyone have any experience with this??  From what I read on the internet about the symptoms of dirty injectors it describes my T4R to a T.

Thx

Buy some seafoam (can be found at pepboys) Pull off the PCV vavle or brake booster hose (whichever is easier), make it suck up enough of the stuff to stall or if it dosent just shut the car off, let it sit for about 5 min, start it up and be prepared to fill up the block with smoke  :2thumbs:

T4r is a 02 with a 3.6 V6

I went out to the store & got the Sea Foam.  That stuff is awesome.  My landlord thought his house was on fire.  So I decide to drive it through one of the richer neighborhoods.    I got some stairs it was funny.  As far as preformance I  can see a definte difference but I think I still have a senosr problem thoguh.  It is reving up nicley now without any hesitation or dead/flat spots on the throttle but it is not shiftting correctly.  I am having my mechniec put it back on the machine to read the sensors again.

Thank for the heads up on the Sea Foam.  Deffintley will use again on my other cars.    :2thumbs:

Glad to see it worked tin. GM also sells some stuff, think its called upper cylinder cleaner. Might also be worth a try, but DONT put it in the gas tank..its not meant for it.  :2thumbs:
