Has anyone had recent correspondence  with Galen Govier's service ? I placed an order with them over 6 months ago, & have sent numerous e-maiils & left countless voice mails . None of my messages have been returned. I've used his service years ago, & never had a problem. If anyone has any updated info, please let me know.

Galen's wife passed away late last year after a long bout with cancer.  That has probably been a big issue for him and likely backed up all of his work.

What kind of a service were you looking for there Big Bird, and one what type of a car? Those two things seems to be the bigger selling points when it comes to a fast turn around with GTS. Just from my observations anyways. If its a HEMI car, or a very rare car (IE weird options or color combinations) then he is typically a little quicker at replying. That or there is always the route of MONEY talks, and it does.

For all the bad-mouthing I hear about GTS customer service, it seems that someone else with even moderate knowledge could start filling this niche    :shruggy:

There are plenty of other people who can decode/authenticate things as well, and there are plenty of people who offer to do those things. Its not that he is the only one who can, nor is he the only one who charges to do things on cars. I have no problem with the services he provides, nor do I have a problem with people paying for his services. However personally I just couldn't see paying for something I could get done elsewhere for a HECK of a lot cheaper, if not for free.

Good luck. I can't read a board without tripping over a Galen thread. You should feel lucky, there are people that have waited 2 years with nothing to show for it. I sympathize for his wife passing but his lack of customer service goes back well before her gettting sick. Unless, as stated, you give big money or it is a rare car.

I think Cody hit the nail on the head - within a month's time, Galen flew in to TX and spit out a complete visual inspection report, broadcast sheet report and designed/decoded the (repro) fender tag... I've yet to get the finished fender tag back from them (I told them no rush - that's probably why) but anytime I've had a question, I've either called or email Diane and she's reponded pretty quickly... I'd just give them a call and keep leaving messages until you get a straight answer from her...

Good luck man!

The thing is Galen got alot of information DONATED to him back in the day - now he uses the info he learned to charge people rediculous $$$ to get his "authentication"

Even that does not always work, as I am still waiting for him to reply back to me on my HP2 car and I was willing to pay for the information when I initally contacted him.  He wanted to know the VIN number of it for his database, but that particular tag is missing, so I asked him if there is a way to figure out what it orginally was (very hard to do in 1966).  I have the fender tag and the rest of the body numbers are still on the car, but that does not give the VIN on it.  Chrysler Historical told me that they don't have the manpower right now to seach their microfich files for my car based on the fender tag information, so I thought GG might have a clue on finding the manufacturing plant/VIN number for it.  That was a few years ago and I have yet to hear back from him.......

The one time I defend the poor guy and he still ends up looking like a schmuck?  At least now I know it wasn't just me before.  :-\

I'd say that the various Registries are trying to help in this way. Providing info that Galen charges for.

ITSA426

I sent him a check 23 months ago for a certicard reproduction for my hemi car, and updated his info request about a year ago.  Still waiting.  The service is almost as slow as Kiesler's but at least Galen's never lied to me.

On the other hand, regarding the loss of his wife, as someone who's been there, I'll cut him all the slack he needs.

Big Bird

Thanks for all the responses. I have a 1970 Superbird, with full documentation including original dealer invoice, original broadcast sheet & fendef tag, which i sent copies of. All i wanted ( & paid for) was his certification & letter of authenticity to complete my files. I guess i'll continue to "bug" them for a reply.

Personally you'd be better off with a letter from DSAC (Daytona Superbird club) or the WW (Winged Warriors) in regards to a Superbird. I'd rather have a letter from those two places authenticating the Bird than GG. Just my opinion though. But I can tell you that between those two clubs there is more than enough information on the Superbirds, and if you have the paperwork you mention it wouldn't take any more than a phone call or email.

If you haven't already, contact Doug Schellinger on this site. (DSAC).

BB, besides Doug & DSAC maybe contact David Wise http://www.mmcdetroit.com/ICCA/Mopars_At_The_Strip/ or Scott Smith for an appraisal, authenticity letter.  They may not carry quite the weight of Mr. Govier but they do similar services IIRC.

If you'll PM me the details on the car, I can help you out.

True - I put Galen up there with Carrol Shelby when it comes to being ripped off...      pay insane $$$ so some guy to say "yea - it really is a car - simply because I say so"
