I was wondering if there is a website explaining the numbers cast on engines and such as well as the stock colors engine blocks are painted. The orange paint on my 360 is starting to come off and I noticed both the block and valve covers were painted petty blue. Just wondering if this was the stock color for a 360. Also Ive got a few numbers Id like decoded on the engine. Near the carb is the firing order, then under that near the thermostat I think is another number. Then on the opposite side is a small group of numbers. I'll try to get pics in about an hour and maybe a rubbing so I can see what the group of numbers says.

Ok the number near the thermostat is: A100340

The group of numbers is REALLY hard to make out, I think it says: 2.6.79

and below that is 3 numbers/letters I cant make out and below that is: D N M

You might give this link a try.

You may be seeing numbers stamped by a rebuilder.I have seen some stamp a invoice number on parts to keep track of what belongs to who.

Look for the numbers stamped in the front of the block just below the drivers side head.

The raised casting number 2.6.79 is the casting pour date February 6, 1979.

There should be an arrow pointing to one of the  DNM, this is the shift the part was cast on (Day, Night, Mid); additional symbols usually resemble a clock dial for the time on the shift the part was poured.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Your 360 should be a light blue , can find repro paint easy, i believe Mopar Perf still sells it in a spray can.
