Daytona In Australia! - Chryslers on the Murray 2020

As many of you may have noticed last December, XX29L9B381541 (more popularly known as the roll over car) was won on Ebay and shipped to Australia. Arriving within the last month progress has started, the car will be restored to as close as original condition as possible with few exceptions which relate to practicality. Many questions will be asked and your opinions and expertise would be greatly appreciated as we know of no other Daytona's in Australia! Here are some photos taken today, notice our pet kangaroo sussing out the old car. On the parcel shelf I noticed something scratched into it which reads, "BFD" (photo included*) any ideas on what this is about, maybe from the production line or creative industries? Any advice on the removal/re-installation of the plug would be appreciated. The car is in quite good shape considering we hear it was rolled..... Please don't hesitate to leave comments, and if anyone knows anymore about the car that wasn't posted around the time it was on Ebay, including previous owners it would be greatly appreciated.

The car will remain left hand drive to convert it would be to wreck it in our eyes, we have a 70' Challenger R/T and 68' Charger (work in progress) which are both left hand drive. As of May??? 1998, you can register a vehicle left hand drive providing it's more than 30 years old with out to much fuss generally.

Not exactly sure what the "BFD" would stand for, other than maybe someone writing a message to another person somewhere along the assembly line.

You are correct though I don't think that there is another Daytona in Australia anymore, but there used to be one, that is back in Michigan now. Which actually was converted to right hand drive. There is a Daytona over in New Zealand though, or at least I think that it is still there, haven't heard of the owner of that car moving back to the US yet.

If you are wondering on a procedure to remove the plug, there are some pretty good photo's of the plug removal on the thread about XS29J9Bullit's Charger 500. The car you purchased appears to be the same Daytona that was for sale at Carlisle last year, and then a little while later was offered up on ebay. I believe that it was previously owned by Dave Patik, of Performance Car Graphics. I think it was one of the multiple project Daytona's that he sold in the late 80's, early 90's.

Welcome to the site though, you have the one car that I so desperately want, a Daytona.

Around this part of the world, BFD only has one meaning.... Which loosely translates to a sarcastic remark of "not impressed".
I'm guessing that it's the opinion of one of the assembly line workers.

As far as removing the plug, it is fairly straight forward...  The leadwork has to be melted out & spotwelds cut around the plug and at the drip trough splices.

As far as my understanding goes the car was bought new in Hatfield, PA by Arthur Morris who then sold the car onto Ernie Pyle and then Dave Patik. The car was bought off Dave Patik in 1994 by Tom Puglia with the assistance of Galen Govier and then onto us. I will try and post more pictures tomorrow but at the moment the site keeps giving me an error.

Boy! you've got your work cut out for you, looks like a major "rebody" is needed! judging by those photos!

Not a chance in hell of the car being re-bodied, it just wouldn't be a Daytona anymore in our eyes! We have a very good body guy lined up to do the work on it and even though the car looks quite beaten from a glance, it's very solid. The roof is quite fixable and the we're even debating keeping the original quarters. Minimum bondo we're talking a 1/16 of an inch not a 1/2 an inch. More photos now, the three 34's, black roadster has a 427 SOHC motor in it Aussie body, blue three window coupe has a flathead with Ardun heads American body, the yellow Tudor has a 351 with EFI, the black 68' Charger has a 496 KB with Indy heads and twin turbos (not on yet as you can see from the photos) all cars are 100% steel..
