buy a $500 commuter car like an older Accord or Camry.

...just an observation, but, given the state of the country, and the economy in general, not to mention the fact this is a Mopar board, how the hell can someone suggest buying a f#%king Jap car? How about a late model Omnirizon? Neon? Shadow? Spirit? Mopar 4-bangers are out there to be had; screw the Japs. My dad has a '99 5-Speed, 4-cyl. Dakota and gets 27 mpg just putting around town. Not trying to offend, just don't understand how a Moparite could EVER recommend a Jap car.  :shruggy:

By the way, congrats on the job. Great that it's an AFL-CIO job. Work Union, Live Better. American by birth. Union by choice.

I went out and bought my 2006 Toyota Tacoma brand new.
Whats wrong with Japanese cars/trucks BUILT BY AMERICANS IN AMERICA?
Last I checked the Big 3 weren't building a lot of their products in the US.
You wanna brand bash we can do this through pm's, email, or in person.

Justify it however you want to...that money goes straight to Japan. Those workers are paid considerably less than a UAW worker, and have less benefits and are treated poorly. My father-in-law quit his job in Pa. to take a job at the San Antonio truck plant (Toyota). A forklift driver ran over his foot and they fired him (my father-in-law) because for him to rehab the foot, it would take longer than they wanted, so they canned him. Nice, huh? The guy uprooted his family for the promise of a better life, and the heartless Japan-based company fired him. Don't believe for a second that his is an isolated case. It happens at all these plants, most notably Toyota's plants. Remember Pearl Harbor. Never Forget. Remember all the Japs that shot at our boys (our fathers and grandfathers). If an Iraqi, Iranian, or Saudi car company sprouts up in Bumbledick, Tennessee, and employs locals, should we go out and buy one of their cars? Think we might hold a little grudge? How soon, as Americans, we forget. Korean War Veterans driving Kias and Hyundais. WWII Veterans driving Nissans and BMWs. Sorry, it makes no sense to me. I build it here. I spend it here. I buy what I build. I think what's going on in this country is sickening. It's why I never set foot in a Wal-Mart. I look for the Union label. I do whatever I can to buy American-made products from American-based companies. They ARE out there. You just have to be willing to look for them and patronize them. Rent, or I will personally send you a copy of, "Wal-Mart: The High Price of Low Cost." Most Americans simply don't care. They don't ask WHY it is that they don't have, or can't find, a good-paying job. We simply don't take care of our own; we have greedy corporate-minded profiteers selling us out each and every minute of every day, overseeing their company that used to be in YOUR town, which is now in China, from their laptops in the backs of their Lexuses while being shuttled to Country Clubs from their mansions. But, hey, you just bought a DVD player for $29. You win. I'm sorry if my free speech offends you or anyone else; truly, I am. But, that's just me. Truth sometimes hurts. All I know is that there are NO '66 or '68 Chargers around today that were built in Japan or Korea. Have a Nice Day.  :eek2:

....and, for the record, I wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with a Tacoma. I'd get a Dakota or a Ram. But, again, as a Moparite for life, that's just me.

If you take all the cars currently in Nascar (Charger, Impala, Fusion, and Camry) the Toyota is the only one actaully built in the US :rotz: .

Not that it matters anymore with the way this post went, ::)

I love the job. And the small picture (off my cell phone) is the truck I'm driving. I forgot my digital camera this morning at 3:30am :P

It's a dark metallic red '93 Peterbilt, with a Big Cam 350 Cummings and a 8spd. It has been turned up all the way, and will run 90
