Talking smack about my 73

So im driving in manhattan with my gf and a buddy i picked up from work in the charger...the sound of rice seems to catch my ear but lo and behold its just 4 guys in a new charger that decide to talk some smack and i by no means am about to go WOT city streets. Guy says something like "bet 500$ this car can beat you" really didnt think of a response in time so they just pulled away. I pull up and well they got a tad pissed when i said "Yea you might win, but the difference is your driving a 4 door sedan" streets were wide open so i put a little pedal to the floor and well she took off. They pull up holding there noses...guess they dont like the smell of straight exhaust?? So gf decides to get into it and point out the fact that there are 4 dudes in the car (held up 4 fingers), then said "2 guys in this car" (held up 2 fingers), then finally said and "1 chick" (while flipping the bird). Kinda went our separate ways after that.

Heh sure do wish i had my 512 and asked them to go on the 1/4 mile...but im sure there will be plenty of time for that until then ill just point and laugh  :hah:

And come on....i think 3rd gens are sexy..dont you?  ;D ;D

elanmars

you have any more pictures of your ride? (it's NIIIIIICE! and so's that girl!) any of the inside? I'd just like to see how other third gen drivers have their rides, as there's NO ONE around here with one that I know of yet (close to a year of me having my car and it's just NOW I'm finally finding out there's a Mopar club in this state).

I'm debating on changing the red on mine to black (wayyy down the road) but I don't know. I just think black's pretty sweet.

you can see pics of mine here-

yesterday I had a ricer pass me up on the highway, then slow down right in front of me...pain in the ass, because then he was going way below the speed limit, so I change the lane. He tried pushing his lil' fast and furious ride but it just wasn't happening. Usually I'm more behaved but this vanilla ice at the wheel just got on my nerves and any chance to stomp the horses and make a fool out of another suburban white boy wanna-be thug, is fine with me.

Thanks  :2thumbs: Welcome to the forum BTW

I'll take some pics in the morning, she's just a daily driver at the moment..have dodge seat covers covering up the ripped seats and barely any headliner left (heck ripping the rest off this week)

Camera sure makes the car look better then she really is..but who cares? Its all about enjoying the hobby.

Your charger is in ALOT better shape then mine. I picked it up a couple of months ago, the origional color is the same as yours exept it was a white vinyl roof and white interior...the previous owners did one crappy job painting the car and the interior black.

Any plans for yours?

elanmars

Mine's a solid driver that needs a few things, if I had $2500 or so, I'd be game. 400, 727. I mix it up with my other car, 97 maxima. Used the Charger as my daily driver for a while when my other car was at the shop-luckily it was that one, because I hit debris from a nasty accident (an explorer cut across the median on the highway, going the wrong way, an 18 wheeler DESTROYED IT, so you can imagine the mess on the highway, it was unavoidable, I had the least damage compared to other cars that hit debris) and that night I was going to drive the Charger but when I hit the highway, the headlights started flickering (since, it's been fixed), which turned out to be a blessing.

But yeah, gas prices, school, not much hours being given at work...I still drive it quite a bit, enough that some weeks I'm filling her up twice, mainly because school is a 30 minute drive, as I alternate with both cars. it's also a college town, so I hang out there quite a bit too.

but I do have some plans. A/C, maybe modifying a classic auto air thing? summers are brutal here in Louisiana. the bumpers need re-chroming bad, specially the front one, I don't know how to explain it...it looks a bit faded and speck-ly? sandy? and the back one, passenger's side has bit of rust. They could be a whole lot worse but you know how it goes, you want your car to look as nice as possible within your means.

There are dots here and there of missing paint on the hood, very minor and unnoticeable in the pictures unless I really zoom in but they're there...I think the last owner painted the car himself-he did a decent job but it's not perfect. my hood was keyed by the hood ornament, small but annoying. That's why for one of my picture shoots, I told my girl-friends it was cool to sit on it (they didn't have jeans that would cause more damage). The hood ornament has one side of the SE emblem sticking out more than the other, if that makes sense? The inside looks alright, seats are perfect, dash could use some TLC. Carpet is OK but not perfect, I do need side-window weather stripping as both sides are funky. Back speakers. Transmission apparently needs to be rebuilt or so the mechanic I took the car in for the leaks said-though he said I could drive it for quite a while before any problems?? it's leaky now, has to be refilled every now and again. Console shakes a bit when doing 80 or more. Wish I knew more about that, how to fix things, etc. I'm slowly learning and there are some small things I've done myself but for most things, I'll have to take her to the shop and that can add up.

I tend to treat people like they treat me. If they come up laughing I usually find a way to make their smile disappear (almost never by beating them in a race). I don't care what they are in either - it's the attitude. I've always been one to appreciate any "car guy" and his car as long as he's proud of it (even if I don't particularly like or understand what he's done to it). Leave the "my car is better than yours" attitudes to the BMW and Corvette drivers of the world (no offense intended to any BMW or Corvette owners on this site). I love technology and the newer cars can be incredibly fast - and reliable. Unfortunately, most lack any hint of style. It's funny that they noticed you and had to get your attention but you would have likely driven right by them without a second thought. That says it all to me. Of course, I've never been a drag race fan - I'm either cruising in the city or blasting down winding back roads.

You take some pretty cool pictures of your car. The girl looks great too so if she's you're girlfriend (and she likes your car) then you're doing well.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

'Bout a month ago I was in my T/A and two guys/gays pull up in a new M3 'Vert.  Now, I know those things are fast but as far as I'm concerned the LS-1 is God and I don't really care about these homo's, even when they start revving beside me.  I mean are you serious?  Drag race on Main Street at 6pm with cars and kids everywhere?  I'm not about to do something so F-ing stupid.

The guys/gays start laughing and leave me in the dust of their burnout when the light turns green but dude whatever, it's not worth it, especially if you've got loved ones in the car like you did and you're in crowded, city streets.

When someone rolls up on you with an attitude or whatever, I say "Be like Steve," as in Steve McQueen.  Be so freaking cool that no stupidity will get you to stoop to "their" level 'cause it just ain't worth it.  Besides, you KNOW that those idiots were just freaking jealous anyway........

Nice car, it seems every black 3rd gen was red at one point. elanmars your car looks awesome the way it is. I have never seem or kno wof another 3rd gen by me and FLG has my almost twin and he is about 30 minutes away. I have a 73 400 727. I would be surprised if I could out accelerate a golf cart, but with my 2.45 rear it hauls above 50mph.

The rears is your rear differential. The number indicates the number of turns the driveshaft makes for the rear wheels to turn once. So a 2.47 would mean the driveshaft turns 2.47 times for the rear wheels to turn once. The normal rear ration is 3.23, which is about the median of gears available, 3.23 is a good around town/ highway gear, 3.55 is street/strip usually, 3.91/4.11/4.56 is usually strip only, 2.76 is highway gears, 2.47 is super highway gears.

Thanks guys,

Elanmars i didnt forget about the pics, weathers been crappy and i been busy trying to figure out whats up with this engine. Should have it running again tonight and an answer to if any of my valves are burnt.

Yea im not about to race someone on busy city streets, or any streets for that matter. Though id love to go on the 1/4 mile when the car is finished and see what she runs. I hoping for 12's with street tires.
