My transmission in my 74 is slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear, never slips between 1st and 2nd, not sure whats going on, the car is a 318 with 2.73 rear gears, and what i believe to be a 904 tranny, although i could be mistaken, i found a torque flite 727 out of an old truck to put in if the 904 is shot...

not sure that truck tranny will work. Might want to ask around on this board.  Check it's lenght.  I know 4X4 tranny conversion will not work as a swap because the lenght is too short for your car.

well i guess that shoots my 727 i have in the foot, it came out of a 78 4x4 truck, i don't have a kickdown linkage on the car, just a hurst promatic 2 ratchet shifter for the time being. i've been considering an a833 manual transmission to replace the auto when i can find one, i lack the transmission, floor hump, clutch fork and clutch yet, I already have a bellhousing, clutch and brake pedal assembly, and the long 2 mount tailshaft for the transmission, currently have it mounted on an a833 overdrive tranny, but the tranny i have won't work with the bellhousing, and I want a straight up 4 speed rather than the 3 with overdrive that my current unit offers. just trying to make my auto last as long as i can to give me time to gather parts.

BINGO!!  Without that linkage the trans won't shift properly and might be fried depending on how hard it was flogged.

The term "kickdown linkage" should be banned from the Mopar lexicon (correct term is throttle pressure linkage), "kickdown" implies that the linkage is only used to force a downshift but, in reality. it controls the shift points and sets the internal pressure to match the throttle setting.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
