Fiberglass or Metal fenders??

I am restoring a '69 charger. I started sandblasting the fenders and can see that the whole front edge where it meets the headlights is putty. I don't think I want to repair it and was thinking about buying new fenders to put on instead. I need to get this thing painted by end of summer, so don't have time to do this kind of body work. What are your opinions on fiberglass vs. metal replacement fenders? I'm leaning towards fiberglass because they are cheaper, but I have the metal rear quarter skins on it. I have never worked with fiberglass before. Is there any cutting involved? When you put the paint on, can you notice a difference between metal & plastic?
Thanks!
I have seen evil! I have seen horror!
I have seen the unholy maggots which feast in the dark recesses of the human soul!
I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

With the new fenders coming from AMD I wouldn't even think about glass.  I know it's cheaper but at some point in the cars future you'll regreet not putting on steel when you could. :Twocents:

No question about it......................call AMD
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

From what I understand, there is A LOT of work that has to be done to any aftermarket fiberglass body panels.

Another vote to skip the 'glass and get some steel ones.

Glass hoods & bumpers & trunklids can work fine.  That stuff isn't very loadbearing at all.

But glass fenders (and glass door shells too) aren't great street items.  They're rarely made strong enough for real-world street usage.  If the manufacturer actually does make them thick & braced-up enough for the street, the final result is 70% as heavy as the steel ones.
