Hey guys - got an email from my dad so I basically did a cut and paste to this thread - we're both looking for more feedback from you all as we bring the Charger('71-440) out of storage and get it ready for this summer.  He read your posts on my plug wire thread and took that into account with the 50ohm recommendation,  so here it is:

(440, mallory distro, msd, currently demon 750 vacuum secondary, cam lunati 480lift 230/292 duration, m1 dual plane manifold, 1 5/8  headers, x-pipe on exhaust, 727, 2800stall)

"Doug:

Spark plug wire sets:

MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor 50 ohms   http://www.msdignition.com/1sparkplugwires.htm

                              Or

Taylor 8.2 ThunderVolt 50 ohms  http://www.taylorvertex.com/Products/pdfs/taylorcatalog9.pdf

The guy at Taylor told me to order the universal fit ones because of how Chrysler ran their wires from the plugs to the distributor.   He said that if I order the 440 custom set, they will be too long.

I like the 180 degree boots that are bendable to fit the header configuration.

Should we also order boot protectors? http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/753641/10002/-1/10401

Carbs

I like the 770 Holley Street Avenger http://www.jegs.com/p/Holley/749689/10002/-1/10271

Edlebrock Thunder series AVS 800cfm http://www.jegs.com/p/Edelbrock/752435/10002/-1/10271

Quick Fuel Technology 680 or 780 cfm http://www.jegs.com/p/Quick+Fuel/750840/10002/-1/10271
(quick fuel looks awesome)

Spark Plugs

We should get new plugs too but I don't have a clue on which ones to get.  We have ACCEL 134s in the car now.

I need your input on all of the above items before we order.

Dad"

Looking forward to the feedback, and thanks again everyone.

myk

Mmmm...I like the custom Taylor wires, stay away from the 'Edelbrock 'carbs, and I bought Bosch plugs for my Charger but there are better ones out there for our cars.

As for plug boot sleeves, why not?  Especially if you're running headers...

All three of your carb choices are for lack of a better term, mostly junk.
get a holley double pumper and learn to tune it, you will not be disappointed in the results. Do some keyword searches about this. get one of those three, especially the edelbrick and you will be saddened in the end.

Why not get a set of quality wires that are already custom-fitted for your car ?Already machine-crimped and you just need to open the box and install..   Just a thought ..   www.Firecore50.com

Another thought, I've been making my own wire sets by hand for many years, I personnally prefer it that way because I can dress it out however I like, and avoid things like custom PCV check valves off the exhaust I've put in.

Hi Doug, to answer your questions :

(1) Carb ; proform 750 would be my choice  :yesnod:

(2) Plug wires ; The firecore 50's are excellent and can be built to your specs. There are also boot protectors available from Firecore if header clearance is tight. These really are top shelf wires with lots of Dyno data to back them up. MFR426 (Mike) just installed them on his new 512 stroker and really likes them. Other members here are also running them. My next set of wires will be Firecores  ;)

(3) For pump gas iron head street builds i like the NGK XR5 plugs....the correct heat range and they stay nice and clean.  :2thumbs:

Thanks Ron. Only a few enthusiasts out there can actually cut and crimp their own wires properly. You are one of the few. Our wires can be made to the customers lengths, then machine crimped for consistancy. Take out of the box and install. All of our wires come cylinder marked with plastic markers for correct installation..

We ended up installing an Edlebrock 800 AVS, and it's working great.  Our carb guy jetted it and adjusted the vacuum secondary to act more like a 700ish cfm carb.  The throttle response is great and we picked up power throughout the RPM range over the 750 speed demon we were running for the last two summers.  The tires will finally make some noise  :2thumbs:

I'm very impressed with the AVS.

i agree on the carb choices too!
i would use a holley, they are soooo easy to tune, you can do it yourself, you dont need a shop to do it.
i use msd 8.5 wires, with 90 degree boots on all of my cars.
i get the universal set and cut and crimp to fit. :iagree:
