distributor collar clamp - do you need to adjust timing afterward?

I'm planning on adding the shaft collar to my distributor to eliminate spark scatter.  If I mark where the rotar was before removing the distributor, and put it back in line, do I need to worry about checking/adjusting the timing?

Just wanted to know because I don't have a timing light, and need to know if I should have one on hand.

You'll be close enough, but if it were my car, I'd get a timing light because it's an important tool to have and I'd retime so that I knew for sure.

do you have a recommendation on a timing light to buy?  I don't want junk and don't need really high end because I won't use it that often.

I have an adjustable one and honestly, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good one.  A non-adjustable may be all you need but it's still what I'd recommend.  I started with a cheap one so basic that you would hardly believe to see it but it served me at the time (30 years ago )so maybe it's all relative?

I've been using the same Craftsman light for 30 years. 

No dialback, no digital readout....pretty basic and it works just fine. 

Yes, retime the motor when you pull the distributor !
