only diff between 72 and 73/74 on stock assembly is the dryer location and then of course some of the lines route, but if you are going aftermarket will need new lines and dryer anyway, then won't make any difference

Pretty much a no-go on updated systems like classic and other offer the 72 and older cars.  73 and up's are stuck right now refurbing our old systems.  Not sure how well a 72 would fit, like Nacho said, some differences there but not for certain what.

Ok, definitelly if you upgrade for a newer system, you can keep your same lines to dryer since they are hard lines, and change the hoses. Hoses are the ones running to compressor

Sorry but I guess I didn't really spell it out better.  Yes, you can get a modern compressor and everything for the engine bay, the problem is the ac/heater box under the dash.  No one that I've found is making more modern ones that fit properly.

if box will be changed, 72 are the same than 73, 74 and I think even laters, so if 72 are being offered and they really fit, then works to 73 and laters. Now if Charger74 states haven't found some one that fits corrctly, then doesn't fit on 72 and earliers either

as stated, just dryer location and lines related to dryer are different
