Finished the car.

I tried to go for an ultra perfect engine and bay area this time. Factory or concourse was not good enough. I wanted everything detailed. I know it will not last, but till then it is going to look good. I drive my car daily in the summer on nice days so I know it will take its toll.

New engine :[/b]
KB Quenched Pistons
Oversized stainless valves/Ported Heads
Comp Cam XE274
Weiand Dual Plane (ground off the name – looks factory)
60 ever
Sixpack rods
Steal Crank
Internally balanced
2200 stall
1411 Edelbrock Carb
Exhaust crossover blocked off.
TTI 3" pipes with "Pypes" tips (great tips for 85.00 for 3' inlet and 4.5 out stainless a pair)

Engine & Bay – [/b]
Distributer hold down – Factory part sanded and polished like chrome.
Every part is new or rebuilt painted and or polished.
Every bolt plated or polished
Motor painted HEMI Orange (Centari Dupont)
Valve Covers cleared (DuPont™ ChromaBase®) Cut and buffed.
All black parts painted including radiator, wiper motor, voltage regulator and pulleys with "Pitch Black" (Centari Dupont) cut and buffed.

Wing painted (DuPont™ ChromaBase®) three stage custom white pearl only.

I kept it for future "maybe".

Thanks a lot guys – I appreciate all that is said. It has been great to see all your work on these cars that are being put together. It all takes time and money and without this tread it would be much more difficult to work on these cars. This is a great community.

NYCMile – I have been watching your build and cannot wait to see it and its progress. Do not get discouraged and do it your way. I love the suspense.

Hey as for the rims - I have had the Magnums and they are nice, but once you see these Chargers with beefy fatty rims and tires the rest just do not fill the hole. Look at these Chargers down the side with the 14' or 15' rims - they just look like the car will role over if you turn it sideways. These fenders are made for stock car racing with fatty tires. Give me a break on the puff dady stuff  ;D  - these are a whole lot better than using painted truck rims and jacking a Charger up high to look like an SUV  ;D All in fun.

Dang....that car is freakin' gorgeous!!!!!   I love the way it looks with the "puff daddy" rims.   It is probably one of the nicest cars on this site.

Beautiful car.  I hate to say it,  but I agree with Larry.   It isn't so much the size of the wheels as the style.  All that chrome overpowers the look of rest of the car.

Dane's car looks good just the way it is.  :yesnod:
I like the looks of my 17" Boyds.
It's the smooth ride that I got with the stock 15" wheels that I miss. The cuda rides like a log wagon now.

About the big rims. Let me give us a little history and the making of the big rimmed wheels. Back in the 1970's and 80's Art Center College of Design (Pasadena Ca.) was drawing concept cars with these rims long before Puff Dodo was out of diapers.  More wheel and less rubber meant better handing and astatically allowed for more creativity in design that lent to a more attractive wheel and car. The oversized tire makes it look like a dune buggy or truck to me

This is a drawing that I did in 1982 (Now ruined over time) of a concept car for my portfolio to gain acceptance at Art Center. (Chip Foose was in my class.)

The big rave was getting new ideas for headlights and wheels - they were boring and standard on all cars. Now of course – everything has changed. My Dad is still stuck in the 50's and will never get away from his "Big Whites". I will not be that way.

The point is...They are not ghetto wheels, or south of the boarder wheels, they have their origin in the design rooms of the teenagers of the 70's and 80's. It was the "establishment" that held off until the after market was eating their lunch – then they changed. Now you can get 40 years later a Challenger from Dodge with 20" rims. We win!

Everything has it's place –that is what makes this fun – everything is not the same.

I love the wheels, sorry I do not like smaill rim FAT tire..... Although I respect that some people have that preference.  I like 17-19 inch wheels on a Charger.... again my preference.

Although my 70 may be running drag tires.... soo I will have one of each.

No - I wish. Just redid my yellow one. That one will be next in line. I have to deside what color scheme.

hotrod98

Selecting the color can be the most difficult part. I'm going through that right now with my daytona clone project. The car is a real triple black R/T SE. I've always wanted a red daytona, but somehow it doesn't feel right changing the color and not going back black. The worst thing is that living in the south makes black a bad choice due to the oppressive heat in late summer. The heat is so bad that you probably wouldn't even be able to drive the car if it were black. This is a moral dilemma for me. The plug and deck lid are completed and I'm working on the nose assembly now, so the car is only a couple of weeks away from going into the booth.  :scratchchin:

Red may not make that much diff - it gets hot too. I was thinking of Sassy Grass Green - ??? not sure... I might just go Red again. I do not like white, Petty blue, faded yellow, any metallic's so what am I left with??? - Not much. I might do a Hemi Orange one. Not sure on that because I think that looks like a faded oxidized red.

If I went with a Sassy Grass Green I would keep the green wing (do not like black wings and a white wing I question on that color) and paint the stripe over the green in a custom Sassy Grass Green Pearl. It would be subtle. All with a light doeskin interior - All thoughts.

Dane, with all of the daytonas that you've built, I can see where it would be getting difficult to decide on a color. Since this is my first one, I really wanted to stay with a color that was available on a 69 Daytona. Or at least a close facsimile of an original color. We've decided to paint my wife's superbird clone tor-red (hemi orange) instead of limelight. We already have one limelight car. So that leaves out hemi orange for the daytona. We had a challenger convert that was vitamin c orange and I didn't care for that color much.
Since you've gone the red route at least a couple of times, I would think that you would want something different just so that people don't think that it's the same old car that you always had.
If I didn't go red or black, hemi orange would be my third choice. I've been experimenting with the hemi orange color by leaving the metallic out and I like the way that it looks. Now that I think of it, I kind of wished that I hadn't talked my wife into switching from limelight to hemi orange on her bird.  :scratchchin:

Stuart, when I removed the back glass to reseal it, I couldn't help myself. Having all of the daytona parts lying near the car didn't help either. I decided right then and there to go ahead with the conversion. I tend to make decisions that way. I plan to have the car at Branson. That's why I was hoping that you would have the motor replaced in the bird by then.  ;D
